How messy are doves and pigeons?

Nice! I used to have a Muscovy duck as a pet (I got it as a duckling at a swap-meet). But sadly, she became too big for the cage and our yard, so we had to release her into a golf course where there is a big lake with a fountain in the center along with other wild ducks.
Cool! Do you know if she lived?

I have to disagree with you on that. Some of our's can be very affectionate at times. One of my favorite things about ducks, is being able to herd them anywhere.

I'm truly sorry for what I said. That's just my opinion since I've only had 1 duck so far.

Abandoning a domestic duck? That is cruel. Would you abandon a dog or cat on the golf course when it got too big for its cage or your yard? I hope not.

Is he telling me I shouldn't get doves?
There is no comparison between a ring neck dove and a true homing pigeon. Rollers are good birds and are very enjoyable as well but still Homers or Racers are superior and in a league of their own. If you should be lucky enough to find Janssen blood line any one who knows anything about pigeons would say you SCORED BIG TIME.

I apologize for this since I realized my yard is not adequate for a duck and have to place her somewhere where she'll have greater access to swimming water. We didn't mean to release her, but we couldn't think of any other option. This was our first time having a duck, and I'm not getting one again.

On the up side I owned Muscovy ducks and they would fair much better in a feral state than most domesticated ducks. Especially the female where they can fly as well as any Mallard. Muscovy drakes on the other hand are pretty much flightless. Their meat is a delicacy and is more akin to beef than poultry. Not greasy like goose. They are death on slugs and eat a ton of insects. When managed correctly a good tool for any gardener.
