How much did you spend on your coop? **Update with pics on pg. 12**

That sounds like a bargain. Your DH should be happy.
I'm not going to admit what we have spent on our coop and run but we wanted to do it right and only once. I will say that the 225' of hardware cloth cost us about $330.

Oh wow, do I suck! LOL DH and I are in the "process of building" an 8x6 coop with an 8x12 (maybe 16) run and the grand total so far is a whooping $850.00...YIKES!

, hens. One looks like "her" tail feathers may be getting a little long! Anyway, from out of 7 BOs and 7 EEs I believe there were 6 (maybe 7) roos. Almost 50%! My hubby was real proud of the chicken stew we made ourselves and the In-laws with our own fresh home raised chickens until I reminded him it only cost us about a thousand dollars!!!

We also have younger chicks that we don't have a clue on gender yet. My luck MORE roos!! But after reading this thread I guess I don't feel quite so bad about the money we sunk into our run and coops. Our very own "Money Pit"!!! It's worth it to me if our birds never pay us back. I especially love watching how funny they are and the personality each one has. Who knows I may even get an egg or 2 before too long.

Just under $500 for 6 coops attached to the same run. Lots of recycled windows etc.. Most expensive was the fencing & hardware cloth. We will make that back in like 100 years or so

My father, a retired carpenter, helped me build my 4x4 two story coop for about $250 including custom paints. That's for all the nails, screws, plastic roof, hardware, the works. We got a lot of the pressure treated lumber from the scrap pile at Home Depot for about fifty cents a piece. We used all weather-resistant materials [he tells me the coop will outlive us all. There are a bunch of pics on my page.

I'm pushing $1000 for an 8x8 coop. ....and it really isn't done, yet. Still have to do nesting boxes, roost, poop board, inside wall, insulation, outdoor run, and the list goes on forever.

We spent about $1000 on the coop (8' x 12'). That includes about 8 sheets of free plywood, linoleum for a mere $20 and the interior is nearly all recycled (nest boxes, feeder, etc). It is 2x4 construction with a 2x6 sub floor on 4x6 skids. The roof is metal corrugated sheets. We built it extra sturdy though since we are in earthquake country.

The run was another $300 or so for chain link, posts, etc.

We have expensive chickens!
