I am in for about $800, but this includes fencing and posts as well. Still have the insulation and inside walls to do but they are in it for now. The rest will come before winter.

Don't know if I Will ever break even, but is sure is fun!

With the cost of building materials, electric fence charger, fencing and wire, heavy duty netting for the top of the run, automatic door opener, Premier electric poutry mesh, and a ton of other things I figure my eggs cost better than $150 a dozen.

My husband spent $200 to buy a new puppy so I don't see spending that much on a chicken coop as being bad at all, especially since the chickens will be laying eggs

I originally estimated my costs around 500$ using salvaged material, but passed $1500 this weekend (using all new material) with the run around the coop about half finished. It didn't help that I used this project as an excuse to buy some new tools.

Chickens living in your garage will motivate you to spend whatever it takes to get the thing built. In hind-sight, I should have waited a couple more months to get my flock started, but there was no stopping me at the time. I definitely could have used cheaper materials too, the coop is stronger than my house and will probably out last it.

I spend more on stuff for the coupe more than anything. Feeders, waterers, fans, etc. I have $300 or more in that stuff. My coop was free and there is alot of scrap wood for ramps and roosts. My parents just rebuilt their wrap around porch. So I have tons of scrap wood. And the 2x2's make great roosts. I bought a belt sander to round the edges.

Wow I say most of yall got a good deal LOL. Here in Canada material is so $$$ I have spent 400 at home depot just on 7 sheets of plywood and screws. I am no where near done in buying materials. And this is just for my small banty coop. We have had a coon problem we have loss a ton of birds so going to buy electric fence which will be about 2k to do all the coops.
