How much do you spend per month on feed for your small flock???

I have 19 chickens 8 ducks and 1 goose and buy 1 50lb. of Flock raiser and 1 50lb bag of 7way scratch a month, Just bought a 50lb bag of FR today cost 15.90 wow it's sure gone up, anyway about 27.00 a month on feed total. Have been giving my eggs away, but will start selling them for $2.00 a doz. this next week to help pay for feed.

Lets see... I have three pullets (two just started laying) and I bought a 50 lb bag of grower about five months ago for $16 and still have about half of it left. Add to that the bag of oyster shell at $9 two months ago and it's a little more than half gone... So about $3.85 a month to give my ladies the staples. Add in scratch ($10 for a 50lb bag, well more than half still left after five months) and it would probably be around $4 a month. I give them leftover vegi's and such on occasion too (what's left on someone's plate or the stuff that I know will go bad soon and be wasted)

Now if we add in purchased treats, that number would go up...

Boy are you right Chick, I didn't even add the dried meal worms I buy which I can't bring myself to even put down on here I buy 22lbs, at a time, it's less expensive that way. plus flock block oh well you get the idea.

I have 15 chickens of various ages (4 hens laying consistently & I have 1 roo).
I spend an average of $20-25 per month with the laying mash & boss; they get all my scraps & free range at least 1/2 the day 4-5 days per week.
I get approximately 100 eggs per month. This keeps my family well supplied in eggs.
While it may not be cost effective, it's healthier for me...I love the eggs AND I like to just sit around watching them.
It's definitely cheaper than therapy!

Wow, i am learning from this thread. I've learned that our local feed prices are HIGH. I feed organic but even the conventional feed prices here are high compared to what you all seem to be paying. I think nearly $20 per 50# for Payback. Also, my birds must be wasting a lot of feed. Going to have to build a better feeder.

I was surprised when I went to colorado recently and my friends bought feed for their chickens at like $12 a bag. I thought it was on sale!

My birds waste feed too, I have ducks and I don't care how far away from their water I put their feed they still manage to get it wet sometimes which means trash. So yep there is wasted feed for sure.

I have 3 hens, almost 22 weeks. I feed them commercial feed, kitchen scraps, and any other little treats I find. The 50 pound bag of feed cost just under $20 (like $16-17) and lasts 3 months. I think that it is very cheap/reasonable to own a small flock. I just got my first egg today, but I figure once all three girls are laying I will be saving at least $200 per year...not to mention giving eggs to others!

One source of free food is your local grocery store. I get tons of vegetable trimings from our Kroger. Just ask for a box full everytime you shop.
