How old was your hen when she laid her 1st egg?

One of my seven hens just laid her first and they are all 21 weeks old. Not sure which one it was, but it was a brown egg...

I've gotten eggs for years and I still do this! Especially with the Light Brahma's eggs...

My 8 month old BC Marans/Langshans mutt laid her first egg today! It was about 2 1/4 inches long and pretty wide. It was a deep chocolate brown color-beautiful!

Today one of my golden comets laid her first egg. She's 26 weeks old. THe strange thing is it was another golden comet who laid the first egg at 16 weeks so I'm not sure breed of chicken makes a difference ????

Anyway, she was so proud of herself she just had to run outside the coop and crow and tell all the other girls what she had accomplished. She was really struttin her stuff. The egg was weird like first eggs SOMETIMES are. It was real soft like rubber. It was of good size though. No hard shell. We got that once before from another hen. The subsequent eggs are hard.

Sometimes I find the shells to be too hard. They're almost tough to crack open. I have never gotten such tough shells from store bought eggs. Not sure what the difference is.
