how soon can I hold /handle my chicks My 8 year old wants to hold them, but they were born 11-24-09 Help R

I dont play with mine, but my Grandkids pick them up from the time they are in the brooder.
Just make sure they are gentle and dont let them get a chill.
And make sure they wash before and after handling baby chicks.

Have fun.

I would handle them right away. I've been to "careful", not picking up the young chicks, and not letting my son touch them. Now they are grown, and don't much care for handling. You want them to bond to you in the first few days, after that they get skittish. Just make sure they don't get dropped!

I handle them as soon as they are hatched and dried.

Just don't let them get chilled and be careful about squeezing !

By all means, teach your kids the proper way to handle baby birds, watch them carefully when they do and teach them NOT to handle them when you are not present.

baby chicks think the world of being handled. As they grow they can become a wonderful friend to your kids.

8 is a perfect age for her to learn how to handle birds. And I handle chicks as much as possible. It makes a big difference.

Of course now I have a yard full of chickens that think they belong on my lap.
