How to bond chickens to their coop?

Do a thread or google search for chicken mites: red roost mites, and northern fowl mites. Also do a search for types of chicken lice. After you've done the reading, you'll then know what you are looking for!

@PirateGirl has great suggestions. I might also add that what I did/do is I have a battery-operated little night light that I put in the coop for a few days. As it gets dark out, then are drawn toward the light. It's worked great for me.

I've done something similar, but with a cheap solar powered landscape light.

I realize this thread is a little stale, but I finally solved it! I put a couple screws partially into the top of the gate where they were roosting outside, then ran a piece of bare copper wire and wrapped it around the screws to keep it above the surface and it sits about 1/2" up.

Makes the gate uncomfortable for them to roost on, but it doesn't hurt their feet or prevent them from using it to get in/out of the run.
