How to Breed Black Breasted Red ?

Okay didn't realize that partridge was a penciled variety. I've never really messed with partridge before, except I did a one time havee a Partridge Cochin rooster and I didn't see pencilling in him, maybe just in the hens, then?

Yep Gold Penciled Partridge breeds would be Partridge Brahmas, Wyandottes, Rocks, etc

Silver penciled Partridge breeds are like Dark Brahmas, Silver Penciled Wyandottes, Rocks ect.

I added the peciled part to make sure you knew I was talking about the Penciled type Partridge becuase in some areas the BBRed is also called Partridge, like in some areas the Wellsummers are called Partridge Wellsummers. BBRed is also called Brown sometimes, ( like in Brown Legorns or Brown Sussex)

Got ya. I may if I get the money together get started on these this next spring, of course I have to get babies and let them grow up first. We'll see.
Thanks, for all the advise.
Feel free to make more comments or suggestions as you feel the need.

Yep The penciling is just in the hens. the roos look more like BBReds ( or more like Silver Duckwing if they are Silver Penciled)

Also Golden Penciled ( Partridge) and Silver Penciled are Gold/Silver inverses of each other and breeding them works the same way like I am explaining the Duckwings colors.

Same as

Silver laced/ Golden laced

Columbian/Buff Columbian

And colors like that.

Oh And also Columbian (Silver/Buff/Red) and Birchin ( Silver Birchin/Brown Red...aka Black Copper) patterend breeds would be pretty easy to work with. You should be able to cross a Duckwing to a Columbian or Birchin patterned bird and all the chicks should be Columbian or Birch patterned depending on which one you used, and breeding back to the Duckwing should give about half Duckwing chicks

So of the breeds your listed you like which were, Plymouth Rocks, Wynadottes, RIR's, Cochins, Jersey Giants, and Polish, you could use the Wellies and/or Dorkings to get the BBRed color then of the ones you listed you should be a able to use

Plymouth Rocks ( Partridge, Silver Penciled, Columbian if you can find them, and if you breed barring into them from Barred Rocks, you could work on Crele colored birds which are Barred Red Duckwing.)

Wyandottes Same colors as the rocks if you can find them.

RIRs Are Red Columbians so they would be your best bet as far as getting the right colors easier you do the way I explained above for the Columbian patterned birds.

Cochins Partridge and maybe Blacks

Jersey Giants Black should work if you wanted to try but with blacks most of the time you cant tell if they are silver or gold based so I you can avoid it, I wouldnt try to use blacks with all the other colors that you could use.

Polish I personally dont like polish so I wouldnt use them and I dont know if any of their colors would help you.

And then also if you wanted you could add Black Copper Marans or Silver Marans to the mix. Those are Birchin patterned birds. ( BTW Silver Birchen and Brown Red are Silver/Gold inverses like I was listing in my above post.) Brown Red is the true genetic color name of the Black Copper Marans.

Thanks alot for the info above. You have put alot of effort in. I sure appreciate your help and advise RAREROO. I'm going to have to reread all this to digest it all in. Again thanks. Just post or PM me if you thnk of anything else I might use.

I did some playing around with the chicken calculator. According it it the Salmon would be a better color to work with for the Red Duckwing.
Question: How hard would it be to breed out the feathered legs, the beard and the 5th toe?

Yep, the Salmon as in Salmon Faveroles I believe is like a golden wing Wheaten and it should work too.

I would also like to know about the feathered leggs but I have asked before and people say there are three genes that effect legg feathering so I dont know myself and I'm not sure if anyone could tell you, I guess it depends on how many of those genes are present.

Well you take Black Breasted Red Saipan Jungle Fowl or a Black Breasted Red Malay over Rhode Island Red Hens the F1 offspring should come out a Red pattern similar to the Rhode Island Red.
Now cross the F1 Red Hens back to the Black Breasted Red Rooster (either the Saipan or Malay) from this cross you should get;
Red Columbian, Gold Columbian and Black Breasted Red.
Now you can cross the F2 Black Breasted Red back to there Father/Grand Father or you could cross them to a Black Breasted sibling all offspring from this cross should be Black Breasted Reds.
