How to help my stubborn drake heal

I have just attempted to stick a small piece of pill in his mouth. I'm not sure if I was successful. I think I'll try to do the water mixture instead. He is the most stubborn and uncooperative bird patient I've ever had. If all else fails I can try to get some watermelon and shove the pill piece into a chunk of that and hope he eats it.

Someone else posted about using banana.

I'm not sure he'll eat banana. I wasn't able to get another piece to him last night. I sure tried, but he would NOT open his bill for more than a split second. I tried shoving my finger in his bill when it was open and he still twisted away. Surprisingly he didn't try to break my finger off.

But, despite not getting his dose yesterday, this morning after I let them out he went 'running' (more like flapping with his legs just barely touching the ground) across the yard. I haven't seen him do that in ages! He then proceeded to hide from me. He's mad.

When I came home today I noticed his knee was considerably smaller than it was before. He's still struggling and trips quite a bit and needs some balance over the weeds, but there is definite improvement. I decided to try a different tactic, and while he was eating his dinner I threw the piece of aspirin directly over the food. Since he's a bird he immediately went for the area the piece flew in. I checked the food after he ate and couldn't find it, so hopefully he got it. If not, the hens are much fatter and heavier than him so I doubt it will hurt them if they get it instead.

Since it's bright orange it is easily distinguishable from the grain.

While his legs don't look 'great' he's moving a lot more functionally than before... unfortunately he's had a prolapse again. I only noticed tonight but I'm not sure how long it's been out. Because of how pink/red it looked I thought it was bleeding so I 'felt' to check. No blood. I gently pressed at the area a bit and he just stood there before I let him be. Hopefully it'll slide back in on its own.

It's been raining nonstop for 3 days. I've had it with the swamp that is the backyard. I'd honestly rather have snow!

He was out waddling around the woods today with the ducks. He got stuck by a log, though, and I noticed the ducks were back and he wasn't, so I had to go out to look for him. He was trapped in one direction by a log and in the others by large bushes - no idea how he got there in the first place, other than the fact he's fantastic at getting himself stuck in places. I carried him back and he scratched my hand up.

Still eating like a piggy and drinking. The torrential cesspool of rain will end tomorrow - hopefully - which might make it easier to try and check his area.

Poor boy just can’t get a break can he. Good thing you found him. Hope the prolapse corrcts itself. Might be a good idea to clean him up real good and put some Vaseline or coconut oil on it and see if that helps it slide back inside.

Oh yeah, if it's not one thing it's the other with him. I think tomorrow I might give him a warm bath inside (after work. grrr) and smear some vaseline on it. Maybe stick him right back in the coop so he can't go swimming and wash it off. I think it gets pushed out when he poops, since he has pekin-style craps that are very loud and his entire lower body goes into the movement.
