How to keep down the insect population?

I looked online to find out about carbolic soaps. It seems that they're not for people with sensitive skin. Me! However, one article that I read stated that it might help to relieve mosquito bites. I could try it in the future. I've tried EVERYTHING that has been recommended for bites and stings and the only thing that works is to use a lot of ice and to knock myself out with Benadryl for two days. Even then, I have bruises that look awful for many weeks thereafter!

Make friends with the bugs.. I was getting attacked daily at my sisiters house last year...wasps, mosquitos, bees, i even got bitten by a centipede. I didnt even know they bit.

One day i said i cant take this any more and i went outside and i talked to the bugs..(I know I really am Crazy) I told them to please leave me alone and i would leave them alone. I took down my traps and never had another problem.. Be one with nature

Google homemade fly catcher or homemade fly trap. There are lots of similar ways to make these, lots of recipes.

It's hard to make friends with the things that are itching or hurting you!

I'm going to have to buy some soda or raid my neighbors' recycling bins!

Does anyone else have any other suggestions that I can try? How about something for the carpenter bees?

I just thought of something! When I had my daughter's wooden swingset installed, I was told to spray saltwater where the slide attached to the wood because yellowjackets might want to nest there. Would this help with any of the biters/stingers?

Just for fun, guines eat all manner of bugs, including flies, mosquitoes, ticks, etc. Second year I had guineas at my last house there was a big difference in the fly and mosquito population. I`ve since moved deeper into the woods and the tick population is ferocious. Hope to obtain some guineafowl this year........Pop

de is diatomacious (spl?) earth. You have to get "food grade". It should be available where you pick up your feed. Works well, but I still like the fly catchers made from soda bottles and dish soap, too.

As far a misquitos go, make sure you have no standing water anywhere. They have those misquito donuts that you can put in small ponds. I don't think they are to harm animals. May want to check first. Any water bowls should be emptied and refilled. Just a thought. If you have a pond, put in some goldfish ( I think it was mentioned in an earlier post) I have a bat house and they enter it from the bottom for those looking to build one. Good luck to you all!

My son is also allergic to all wasps, bees, and hornets. He is going through venom therpy. The funny thing is when he get mosiquito bites he get huge welts and they also take weeks to heal. I asked doctor if it is related to the bee allergy and they told me no. I find it interesting that you have the same problem. If you can invest the time and money if no insurance, the venom therapy is worth it.

I have bats and birds around my property that pretty much keep things together, as well as some welcomed toads. I started feeding birds 2 years ago and now have several varieties frequenting my yard. Build 2 bat houses, you need one for a nursery, they love mosquitoes. I have found a couple toads out in the yard so this year Im putting out some houses for them, 1/2 a broken ceramic cup, a stoneware bowl with a chunk taken out the side or even a small half burried flower pot.
