How to lose 60-70 lbs in a hurry?

I didn't read all the posts

but if no one has suggested it....walk.....walk.....walk....and then walk some more. Good old walking added to a good diet plan can help take the pounds off.

I lost 60 lbs in about 6 months. Low carb.

It also reduced my blood pressure from 149/95 down to 101/62. (Low BP is normal for me. This is what my bp was as a teen and I am now 47.)

Atkins isn't the only way to low carb. Use a service like www.fitday.com to see how many carbs you are eating per day. It should be below 100g/day....ideally under 50g, but with budget that might be more difficult.

For every 50g or carbs you eat it is the same thing to your body as eating 1/4 cup of sugar REGARDLESS OF THE CARB SOURCE.

Sure there are vitamins and nutrients in breads, etc, but they are ARTIFICIALLY ADDED. Leafy greens are a much better option.

I think the easiest thing for you to do (budgetwise mainly) is to check out the book "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon. It is not only a cookbook, it is a book that shows how returning to traditional food prep methods can heal your body, reduce weight, etc... The articles along the side recipes are informative and very interesting.

As for low fat, it has been the WORST DIET ADVICE EVER GIVEN. The entire premise was based on the research of ONE GUY (Ancel Keys) and HE FUDGED HIS DATA! Recently the advice to eat low fat has been put to the test with more studies and it does not hold up. The lower your fat, the more carbohydrates you eat. The more carbs you eat, the higher your weight goes. I can link you with some hard science if you are interested or you can pick up a copy of WHY WE GET FAT AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT by Gary Taubes. It explains everything.

The two things I see with what you are eating is I'd say drop the crutons, if you are going lowfat then they are too high in fat with little nutrition to show and if you go low carb they are too high in carbs.

Also, I see a lack of vegetation. No fruits or veg at breakfast and I just don't count corn at dinner since it is a grain not a veggie.

I have become interested in the Primal Way of eating lately and have been reading marksdailyapple.com, though I haven't had the money to buy the book. They basically go HIGH Fat, moderate protein and veggies while shunning all grains and sugar. I know someone who has lost an amazing amount of weight this way and cleared up several health issues. Since I haven't actually bought the book yet though I have started the Atkins induction by following the instructions on the website (FREE) to start the process of getting myself off the grains and sugars. I'm eating eggs with veggies in them every morning and meat spiked salads in the afternoon and evening, just a few tweaks off from what you listed. I've lost 2 pounds this week and didn't excercise though I really did MEAN to take the kids for some walks!

Good luck!

Mark's Daily Apple is a good information source.

I follow a slightly different philosophy than him, but his plan is scientifically valid and I know many people it has really helped.

Oh and plant a garden!

I have two....that I plant every year...one with corn and cantaloupes and the other has lettuce, spinach, peas, beans, eggplants, peppers and onions. It saves a lot of money, the veggies are better for you and they are right outside the door! I also bought a rice cooker that has a veggie steamer tray in it and it works great.

Oh and another thing I just remembered--I LOVE pasta...and I have recently switched to the whole wheat noodles. They are higher in fiber and slightly less "bad" for you than the plain ones...

Rather than rice, look at quinoa.

As for pasta, even whole wheat pasta is highly refined and will keep the pounds on. I found that out the hard way. As a noodle substitute, I stir fry ribbon cut cabbage and use that. Another option is sweet potato "fettucini". They recently featured it on top chef and chatted about it here... http://www.marksdailyapple.com/forum/thread25917.html

Here's 2 little tips for losing weight that have worked very well for me.

"If a carb is white, it just ain't right." (i.e., white carbs such as potatoes, rice (even some brands of brown rice!), pastas, and processed sugars are not your friends... get your carbs from sweet potatoes, fruits, veggies, whole grains, quinoa, etc.

Here's the second tip:

"Protein and fiber at every meal, makes losing weight no big deal."

Last night, I had Lloyd's BBQ beef and a big pile of salad greens I grew in my backyard. Hubby and I ate like pigs, cost less than $5 for dinner.

Grow some of your own food if you can to also help offset food costs. It does help.

Oh, and eat eggs. Lots of eggs. I'm sure you know where to find fresh ones.... LOL.

The thing hat helped me a lot was portion control. The company I work for gave us a $10/paycheck ($260/year) discount on our health insurance if we would do a health assessment. Mine came up overweight (wasn't rocket science to figure that out). The company paid for me to participate in a weight loss program called Naturally Slim. It was great! The biggest keys that I took away from it was that the stomach is the size of a loosely held fist...don't eat more than that at a meal or you will be overstuffing yourself (but, keep in mind that is chewed up food...not loose-leaf lettuce with lots of air space). The other key was to only eat when I was truly hungry (not stressed, bored, etc) and to eat slowly and stop when I feel full. Oh, and protein with every meal (whether it be meat. beans, etc)! There was no "don't eat this" junk...just eat smart and follow the basic guidelines. I can eat a hamburger, but I probably will be too full to eat all of it. I have lost 20 lbs so far (not being 100% on the program...I have had my moments) and still going! I don't feel deprived whatsoever.

Think about what is wrong in your life. When I say wrong, I'm talking about everything that is keeping you overweight in your life. Before you would ever set out to change your body, you need to figure out why it looks the way it does. This means thinking about the way you eat, your exercise routine, your lifestyle, your habits, etc. You literally need to think about everything you do in your day-to-day life and decide if it is something you can give up for a while in order to lose your targeted weight. If it isn't, maybe losing 70 pounds is not something you will be able to do.

I was going to suggest a blog for all your recipes, but I see you have one.Good, now I can get some suggestions for myself.

Best wishes for you Boyd! Your new home/land is going to get you very active this summer. Consider replacing the iceburg with some mesculin(sp) lettuce and asian greens.Very easy and fast to grow. It will give better nutrients. For dressing we use lemon juice, olive or grapeseed oil,and a bit of sumac.
