How to Make a New Chicken Breed?

I'm not sure exactly about breeding for temperament or body shape, in the times I've done mixes I found that the chunkier body shapes usually got passed on but body shape genetics are way more complex than that ^^"

Less complex is the comb. Singlecomb is the most recessive comb type (rr/pp) and I believe buckeye have peacombs? (rr/PP or rr/Pp) So I would stick with the CCL if you're wanting single combs.

As for what to breed CCL to in order to;
1. KEEP the green/blue egg color
2. KEEP the single comb

-I'd personally go for a white egg layer or a brown egg layer. If I recall correctly breeding a White Egg layer to a Blue Egg layer will make pullets that lay a light blue. Whereas if you breed a Brown Egg layer to a Blue Egg layer you'd get olive I believe? If you want a light blue egg then a white egg laying, single combed breed would probably be easiest. Issue is, most white egg layers are fairly thin, flighty, nothing I personally really like to mess with. However, if you breed a TAN egg layer with a Blue Egg layer you should get a fairly light green, and theres plenty of generally calm, nice, round bottom breeds with single combs who lay Tan eggs, if you're okay with light green as opposed to blue.

Orpington; Tan Egg Layer, Clean Legs, Single Comb
Buff Rooster x Crele (CCL) Hen = Buff pullets, Buff Barred cockerels
Crele Rooster (CCL) x Buff Hen = Barred Buff

Cochin; Tan Egg Layer, Feathered Legs, Single Comb
-all chicks would have lightly feathered legs F1
Crele Rooster (CCL) x Golden Laced Hen = Gold w/ Incomplete Lacing + Barring
Golden Laced Rooster x Crele (CCL) Hen = Gold w/ Incomplete Lacing on the pullets, Gold w/ Incomplete Lacing + Barring on cockerels

Plymouth Rock; Tan Egg Layer, Clean Legs, Single Comb
Barred Rooster x Crele Hen (CCL) = Black Barred
Crele Rooster (CCL) x Barred Hen = Black Barred

Favorelle; Tan Egg Layer, Lightly Feathered Legs, Beard, Single Comb
-i believe half of the chicks will have lightly feathered legs
-all of the chicks will have small beards
Salmon Rooster x Crele Hen (CCL) = " black patterned redshouldered/cream duckwing" pullets, which I'm guessing is gonna look like duckwing just not very show quality. and black patterened, yellow/golen duckwing + barred cockerels
Crele Rooster (CCL) x Salmon Rooster = black patterned red duckwing + barred pullets, black patterned yellow/golden duckwing + barred cockerels

And lastly, just in case you wanted an alternative to Cochins (not sure how you feel about feathered feet) and are okay with losing the single comb (or having to breed more to get it) theres always the Wyandotte-

Wyandotte; Tan Egg Layer, Clean Legs, Pea Comb
Crele Rooster (CCL) x Silver Laced Hen = Golden Incomplete Laced + Barred pullets, Black patterned yellow/golden incomplete laced + Barred cockerels
Crele Rooster (CCL) x Golden Laced Hen = Golden incomplete lacing + barred
Silver Laced Rooster x Crele Hen (CCL) = Silver incomplete laced pullets, black patterned yellow/golden incomplete laced + barred cockerels
Golden Laced Rooster x Crele Hen (CCL) = golden incomplete laced pullets, golden incomplete laced + barred cockerels

Exactly step by step on how you do this. I'm not exactly sure, it's really late here so I may have more ideas come morning, but I feel like these breeds in addition to the cream crested legbars could get you fairly close to your goal fairly quickly : D

I have been thinking long and hard about what chickens to breed together. I have a result of 3.

Buff Brahma
Pros: The size, demeanor, the feather colors, the egg color.
Cons: They may not survive New Mexico summers without extra care.

Chocolate Orpington
Pros: the feather colors, the egg color, the size, single comb
Cons: I have not had success with any orpintons, and chocolate orpingtons are hard to find.

Blue Cochin
Pros: single comb, egg color, feather color, size
Cons: They will have trouble in NM summers.

If anybody has breeds close to this, that have not been previously mentioned by @Northwest_Wannabe I would love to know :)

You’d want to breed these to a CCL?
