Your little farm sounds really awesome! Congratulations on your new fuzzy babies! Don't know how old your chicks are, but if they're still small I would highly recommend brooding them without a heat lamp. There's many safer and healthier heat source options out there...I used the mama Heating Pad method with my chickies and will never use a lamp again! I'd be happy to share links to some of my favorite articles:

1/2" hardware cloth and electric wire are your best friends when dealing with predators.

ETA: And don't trust staples to hold it, use screws and washers.

What gauge should I go with? I know not to get the really thin one but there are a few different sizes and I didnt know where the line is drawn on whether it can be ripped into or not on that stuff!
