Howdy from L7 Farm

Thanks for the tips!

We were planning on having a relatively small enclosed run, in part due to construction restrictions from the town (they legalized chickens, but there are a *lot* of requirements, I suspect to placate people nervous about having livestock around), and a much larger fenced run attached (40 x 20) with a 4' fence. I know the hens can get over this but my wife assures me from her years of keeping birds on her childhood farm that they can be habituated to stick around the yard, and we have another couple of hundred feet of buffer to get to any neighbors. (Her parents still have a similar arrangement with a smaller flock -- they keep 4-6 these days -- same 4' fence they've been using for fifty years off their coop. They keep a rooster usually, though, to protect them, and they do lose a bird now and then.) It helps we're both working from home now and our workspaces overlook the chicken yard. We'll see how that goes and if we have to enclose more space.
