If you don't wash the eggs they have a coating on them from the hen that 'seals' the egg and I have heard of people who will keep the eggs on their counter for 2+ weeks and they are fine. If you wash them you have to refrigerate them because the shell is porous and without that coating bacteria can get in.
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
