Ch.21
I rummaged through the drawers of my room for a change of clothes.
There were plenty that were too big for me, but I managed to find some blue jeans my size, and a big Mickey Mouse shirt that went halfway to my knees.
I walked around with them in hand until I found the bathroom, which was nice looking.
The walls were cherry-colored wood, and the countertops were red.
The shower curtain was also red with little white rose outlines printed onto it.
The curtain was pulled back to reveal a cream bathtub with a shower hovering above.
A towel rack sat alone next to the shower, and I knew I would have to search for one, but I smelled something nice.
There were cinnamon candles, unlit on the counter, and their faint scent relaxed me.
I was surprised as I took this all in that it looked so nice. It was, so far, the best that I’ve seen of the house.
I set down my change of clothes on the counter, and searched the cabinets for a towel.
My hand brushed up against one and I pulled it down, seeing that it, too was red.
I set it on the rack and turned on the shower, letting the water run down my hand so I could adjust the temperature.
As the heat increased, so did my mood.
I went through my usual routine, and was soon standing under the soft rain of the shower. I was completely relaxed now.
Soon though, I heard a knock at the door, “Hurry up in there!” Amy said.
“Ok!” I didn’t want to deprive my friend of this wonderful feeling: the appreciated cleanliness, even the water that gathered on my eyelashes- even if that meant losing it myself.
I toweled off and put on my change of clothes, trying and failing to find a brush, so I walked out with the towel wrapped around my head.
Averting her gaze, so I wouldn’t say anything rude to her for telling me to hurry, I went back to my room.
Dancer was on the floor still sleeping. I hadn’t even noticed that she moved.
The carpet felt cool under my feet because just a little bit ago they were covered in warm water.
I felt yet again relaxed by a change in temperature and lay down next to Dancer.
My head was sideways and I looked out the window. The sky was grey, and the clouds almost blended in, but they were darker.
It looked like it was going to rain, but that was fine. I was in a house now.
I turned onto my side and stared at the wall, thinking about my dream.
What if that really was Cole?
If what he said was true, what’s my white ability?
I tortured myself with my own questions until Amy came to the door, “What’re you doing?”
“Thinking.” I said.
“About what?”
“Dreams. Just dreams.”
“What kind?”
“Ones for the future.. like what might happen to us,” I lied.
“Wanna go check the kitchen for food?” she asked.
“Sure, I could use some breakfast!”
