Ch.22
Amy and I walked around the house looking for the kitchen.
On our way was the living room where Garry was sleeping on the couch.
We crept by as slowly and quietly as we could.
He snored as I got to the kitchen doorway.
There was a small refrigerator and Amy opened it. It contained strawberries, cantaloupe, some hickory smoked venison, various containers of meat, cheese, milk, and a lot more. There was even my favorite juice, Sunny-D.
I checked the cabinets and found dishes, cereal, and the ingredients for s'mores.
It began to rain as I got out bowls. Amy brought over the milk, and we picked out some cereals.
I picked Cheerios, and Amy grabbed some Cocoa Puffs.
Amy shook the milk, and unscrewed the top, pouring it into her bowl.
I watched as she grabbed a spoon for each of us.
She handed me the milk and just as I was about to pour it she reached out to stop me. Her face was scrunched in disgust and she spit out what she had eaten into the sink, “The milk is sour!”
“Eeew!” I poured the remainder of the milk into the sink, happy that my food wasn’t spoiled.
Amy poured her cereal into the sink, and turned on the water, washing it down the drain and pouring more into her bowl.
We walked to the table with our dry cereal and set them down.
Amy sat, but I got cups from the cupboard and grabbed some Sunny-D from the fridge.
As I poured, Amy ate.
“Thanks. That bathroom was nice, wasn’t it? It surprised me.”
“Yeah. The shower was nice. It felt gooood.” I exclaimed.
“Yeah, but it was all color schemed. Not something I expected from a place like this,” she gestured all around.
“A surprise in this case is welcome by me as long as it’s a good one.”
“Yeah.”
We finished up our food, and drank our juice, getting up and sneaking out of the kitchen.
There was a side door to our right as we walked, so I looked outside it. The rain had stopped.
It opened up onto a beautiful garden full of roses and tulips, carnations, and even lilies of the valley, all surrounding an old willow tree. It was all enclosed in a decorative, beautiful, iron fence with a spiked top, and arched gate!
I was turning the knob before I knew it, and stepping outside.
Amy was right behind me, but as soon as we were both outside I was running around smelling the flowers.
Suddenly, I heard something so unwelcomed that I stopped dead in my tracks, and so did Amy.
“Nice to see you again, girls.
You know… you aren’t very good at hiding.”

Ch.23

I was stunned. As motionless as a deer in the headlights of a car.
The voice I had just heard sent chills like ice through my veins.
I turned my head to see the man who had tried to kill Amy and I, surrounded by guards who were staring at me with a hatred i had never seen from anyone before.
The men who seemed to be protecting him looked even better prepared than a S.W.A.T team would be.
Suddenly the men's attention snapped to Amy and they began shouting, "Shoot her!", while fumbling wildly with their guns, staring at my now wolf-like friend.
I turned and ran toward the door, but stopped and stared at Amy, who was now running toward the fence, followed by a barrage of bullets.
Some bullets hit the house, and I hoped that all of the others were OK.
I began to run for the door again, but heard the men shout again, "She jumped it!" and, even the chilling voice of their leader seemed troubled as he shouted, "Team two, hunt her down! Team one and three.. Stay close!"
I turned in time to see Amy vanish into the trees, then continued to the door.
Turning the handle frantically in my haste, I finally got enough grip to turn the knob and push through.
Running through the house, I found the others already changed and mostly furious.
"Where's Amy?!?"
Mrs.Samson screamed inside my head so loud I began to develop a headache.
"She's running from them... She jumped the fence out there. We need to go!"
I ran to the front door, and opening it realized that I would never be able to keep up with them in my.. human form.
After opening the door for them, I began to change, closing my eyes and letting the pain come.
I listened as footsteps searched the house, singling out one that was almost within sight, but they were too late.
I was now fully changed, and I picked the best color I could. A mud-brown. Running as I began my camouflage routine, I heard footsteps pounding after me, but they were in vain since I was now in this form.
Dad was waiting for me at the edge of the trees, and the man had now reached the doorway.
He fired about six shots, successfully hitting the outside of my shoulder, making me yelp and almost face-plant, but my awesome healing powers or whatever they were helped me recover almost as quickly as I had been hit. Dad and I followed the pack's scents far from the cabin. I even noticed Dancer's scent. They had had time to get her out too!
I thanked my lucky stars for that. She's the best dog ever I wouldn't ever want to lose her!
We ran for what seemed like two hours, leaving the truck, our food, our money...everything behind us.
