Back when I was up north a lot of schools would "rent a nice tractor with a few girls and 3 or four hatching eggs and the classroom incubation kit. They'd only do it for a couple of months... The guy who did the renting, could hit three sometimes four schools with the same tractor and girls. He'd bring the chicks back to finish brooding at his place.
This is so important, especially in inner city schools where kids think food comes from a package in the grocery store! Here, we do some gardening with the younger ones, so they can see that tomatoes and carrots actually grow and someone has to take care of them, so that you can eat 3 times a day. LOL

Yes!!! my daughter school and daycare both have gardens, and the kids LOVE it!!!

Folks, I know I've told this story in other threads, so please forgive me if its redundant. I am so new to this, I don't even know how to operate a tractor... My tractor guy is shocked that I've been able to turn my place into a "chicken farm"... More specifically, a city guy turned farmer. He's likely early 30's... After I harvested 820+ pounds of cx birds, I gave him a couple of whole birds. Ok, this is a country guy who can read the pastures, read the land and know what to do... The look on his face was total bewilderment... He looks back up at me and asks: "What do I do with them?" When I told him he could cut them up and grill them or fry them, or roast them whole or smoke them, his response was: "Ok, I'll smoke them." He had no earthly Idea how to break down a chicken. I learned how to cut-up a chicken when I was 7 years old. Because back then, there weren't cut-up chickens in the case.:old

i have to share this... My two year old granddaughter is strapped in her chair watching daddy cook dinner. i asked her if daddy was doing it right and she shook her head yes, then I asked her if she's in charge of quality assurance and again she shook her head yes. And then she went into a tirade of 2year old speak... I'm not sure but I'm pretty certain that she disapproved of something.

I like this story!

He likely does not hunt either. Processing and cutting up a chicken is the same as cleaning a quail or dove you shot during bird season. Pheasant is even close to the correct size.

Tell him to look it up on You Tube!

Afraid I read this with my mouth open!! Taught my daughter this summer how to cut up a whole chicken, cause it only takes a few mins and cost a lot more if someone does it for you. Also showed her how easy and quickly it is to debone a chicken breast. LOL She still complains that her college prep high school doesn't offer home ec as she says many girls are not being taught these things at home. ( I didn't really learn much from my Mom, but it's called the public library or it was in my day, I guess now you can U tube anything)

My BFF only buys boneless skinless chicken breast from the store.
It drives me nuts.
No matter how many times I have showed her and told her how much cheaper it is do do this herself she does not listen.
She is a dork.
