Since I'm new(ish) here, do the moderators get upset when we get off topic?

Seriously, are there moderators? Better question, are there topics? What is the meaning of chicken?
:yuckyuck Seriously, after 320 pages of our ranting (including you), you have to ask that question. Last week was some of the most laughing I have done in a long time, so far this has been a great group. (what topic were we on last?) :lau

Phew. Hope I haven't missed anything in replying
Do y'all do Guy Fawkes day instead of Halloween?
No, not any more. They used to have it, but it got banned years and years ago.
a southern California girl successfully making a King Cake seems about as likely as a guy named Dong Phuong doing it.
Vietnamese are excellent bakers. When the French moved in to Vietnam, they brought their bakers with them and the vietnamese took up baking the french bakery items. Vietnamese rolls are very similar (if not the same?) as french baguettes. We have a lot vietnamese bakeries here set up by refugees and immigrants when they had the "troubles" back home.
is bill alexanders brother??
Yes

Yes, we have the same thing here with vietnamese immigrants, and yes they did bring their french baking skills to a city with a lot of french history, as well as their great cooking skills, also we have a lot of commercial fishermen here so we were kind of a good fit for many. New Orleans is really diverse and we love our food. So it's been a pretty good thing for all. Glad you decided to join us today.

I wonder whether they were attracted to the city because of the shared french history?

I love vietnamese food. (And yet again, it goes back to food. I'm just lucky I don't have access to all the food in my imagination, I'd be as big as a whale. :D)

ON Bill Skarsgard...had no idea he was playing the "IT" character. I'm familiar with Alexander from True Blood. I didn't realize there were multiple kids. Anyway...Bill is on a Netflix show called Hemlock Grove. I've been watching it while doing housework/ironing.....anyway, the hubby walks by and says "what are you watching?! Some Swedish show?!". I look at him like he has two heads and explain the show. He then says...that's Stellan's kid...yeah....like I said, Swedish".
:hmm
I said the hubby can cook....said nothing about his manners.

I'm starting to realize not everyone has the same food chains...which surprises me. We have a KK or Dunkin Donuts on every other corner....the "other" corner is a Star Bucks. I think it's the whole coffee thing. Of course years ago it was bagels.
Just use any plain glazed donut and that should work.
M&Ms....
Yup....caramel, coffee, mint (don't eat a lot of these at one time or you will puke), peanut butter, crisp (think Nestle's Crunch), caramel corn and pumpkin last year for fall....don't know if they'll do them this year. I've noticed they seem to go hand and hand with the specialty Oreo flavors. Anyone have the pop rocks Oreos this summer....:drool
