Well...this will give everyone a laugh when you wake up and check in. Typically I'm asleep at this time...it's 2:30 a.m. in Delaware. I was awakened at 2:21 by the rooster crowing full force. I get up at 5 a.m....he typically does his thing around 6:15ish depending on light level. Yes...he's in the house in our Florida room overnight....a compromise for the neighbors. He comes in a dusk, sleeps on his perch, does his thing early a.m., no one hears him, and then out for the day he goes. Not typical....but it works. Anyway...obviously 2:21 a.m. NOT time for Rupert the rooster (see avatar) to be crowing. My first thought is that someone is breaking in (see earlier posts on crime). :oops:
The hubby has a Cpap and can sleep through an atomic bomb - he clearly is sleeping through this ordeal. :barnie
So I creep downstairs, phone in hand with 911 on speed dial....and what is the problem (insert a "WTF!" here)
I have a hen, recovering from bumblefoot, in the house with him. I have fish tanks as well. I have timers on my fish tank lights. Somehow my hen stepped on a timer (I suspect) and made it so that the big fish tank (55 gal) came on at this time. It obviously pissed off Rupert.
So here I am now....adrenaline pumping and clearly not getting back to sleep anytime soon. :mad::he:barnie

Might I suggest something a little heavier than a phone next time? Something with lead? Even a crooked stick would work, like a hockey club.

I was able to sleep through crying babies in the same bed until the mean, spiteful crazy lady started shoving elbow into my ribs b/c she got tired of being awakened alone.

Excuse me! I'm going to work in 3 hours & need my beauty sleep! Yes, you are the love of my life & I did help spawn the child, BUT...

Children are a blessing! Sleep deprivation, mental stability & stamina are tested with some! Thankfully, it only lasts 25 years. "WE" are dating & Daddy has "issues"...

Glumpki

Ingredients
1 head of cabbage
2 pounds of ground beef
1 1/2 cups of rice
1 Tablespoon of salt
1 Tablespoon of pepper
2 minced onions
1 6 oz can of tomato paste
1 teaspoon of parsley flakes
1 egg
1/2 cup of water
1 15 oz can of tomato sauce

Instructions
1. Steam the cabbage so the leaves can be separated from the head. After the leaves are removed, steam them again to make them more pliable for filling and rolling.

2. Place rice into boiling water for 2-3 minutes. Remove rice and strain water. The rice won’t be cooked, but will be cooked later while it is mixed and rolled in the cabbage.

3. Add meat, rice, salt, pepper , tomato paste, parsley, onion, egg and water into a mixing bowl and hand-mix thoroughly. You can always add different seasonings to your taste. (I’ve even tried Cajun seasoning once and added curry to another batch.)

4. After mixing the ingredients, make a 1/4 pound ball, or handful of the mix, shape it into an oblong lump, then wrap it into the cabbage leaves. After the mixture is wrapped, gently poke your finger into each side of the wrap to ensure the leaf securely holds the mixture. My grandmother maintained that a properly rolled glumpki can be tossed to another person across the room without losing a morsel to the floor.

5. Before you put glumpki into the pot, place a few extra cabbage leaves on the bottom of the pot to protect the glumpki from burning. Place the glumpki into a pot , with a mixture of tomato sauce and water. The liquid mixture should come to the top of the glumpki in the pot. You can add more water if the level isn’t high enough.

6. Bring glumpki to a slow boil, cover the pot, lower the heat and slowly simmer for 90 minutes.

That sounds really good! We make a similar recipe but it's just single cabbage leaves wrapped around a glob of ground meat/rice/spices then baked in crushed tomatoes. I'd like to try this some time though.

it is one leaf per glumpki. Its really tasty! One of my favorites... my kids not so much
