I just told my brother - "it's NOT NICE to dismiss Mother Nature". These hurricanes haven't followed the projections very well at all.

Again, not saying Jose could become more than a bad storm system short of being a Hurricane, but he won't be the first Hurricane that re-strengthened and caused more problems including damage and even death.

Or he may just fade out into obscurity.

In the meantime, I'm keeping an eye on him. lol :caf
I vote for fade into obscurity!!! (EMPHATICALLY)

Just heard from my sister this morning... She's waiting for her relief to show up so she can go home and see how their house looks, but the guy can't get to his car. One assumes from trees and such. I can't imagine how long it would take to figure out how to get to the hospitals down there with the flooding and road closures.
When we had hurricane duty at the hospital, we were there for the duration, I spent 8 days and nights at the hospital for Gustav. Hope she is prepared to stay a little longer and that her relief shows up soon. Beats the hell out of hearing you have already been rescued to a hospital in Baton Rouge, LA and you are still sitting in a hospital in NOLA with patients, knowing now that no one is coming for you and you are under water. This happened to people I know during Katrina.

Safe in Spring Hill Florida. Coop held up. Branch fell on run but can be fixed easily. Power is out but expected that.

Sorry about that last post, still a little PTSD I guess. I really do hope your sister gets home soon. Prayers are with her.

I understand! I'm just glad, at this point, that my family has made it. I say it the way I have only because her husband, mother in law and kids are in the camper somewhere north. Last I heard, probably S Carolina. Now its a matter of finding out how much of her property surivived. Most of the major roads in and around Miami look clear, on the Fl Dot Website...

For anybody who needs road information updates in the Miami area...

And the state...

All of your family is truely in my prayers, the main thing we learned in Katrina is that nothing is as important as human life. Thoughts and prayers will remain with you and your family. Please let us know when you find out how they are doing.

Remember when I asked this question a couple days ago? Not saying it will become a hurricane that comes back, but it is certainly making a circle that could.

In a completely clinical way, it will be interesting to see if it even can complete the loop. Jose has lost considerable strength already due to shear, and the loop it is forecast to take is so small, it will be forced back onto water that it has recently passed over. Hurricanes are heat engines; they are fueled by warm water and rising, moist air, and Jose has already sucked a lot of the energy out of that area (plus the turbulence that takes place in the water tends to cool the surface temperature). It was surprising that Jose managed to achieve the strength that it did, given its proximity to Irma. If Jose does manage to survive to take another pass, it will be one of those, "hmmm, maybe we don't know as much as we think we do about these things" moments for meteorologists.

"There is also another disturbance out near Africa that could turn into something ."

That one is expected to move off in a northwesterly direction and fall apart over the open water . . . but that is always an area to watch at this time of year.:th
