This is why the hubby cooks and not me....I would knife myself trying to do that (but I am impressed with that video!). I had a very prissy mother....would never let me in the kitchen. I'm lucky if I don't set boiled water on fire. Yes....I'm the gal who will stick metal in the microwave and then realize "oops"...after it's sparking and on fire.
My Daughters started cutting up stuff and handling knives at a very young age. They are all three very good cooks and bakers.

They have skills that are becoming rare in our modern age

I had made a cone out of one of those orange cones they use to block streets. The city left it in front of my house after some minor street work. After no one came to pick it up, I cut the narrow end to the size I wanted. Didn't cost me a penny, just a few min. of work.
I just use a boning knife that came with the set I bought after the storm. Always sharpen the knife I am going to use, makes things so much easier. Taught this to my daughter as well, you are actually less likely to cut yourself with a sharp knife than with a dull one. But I am interested in the glove!
I use this now to kill before processing:

Good pots and good knifes are a must in a kitchen.

I agree that good tools are essential. I'm also finding cheap knives are abundant in my price range, but expensive knives can be found at goodwill! Yeah! Teaching the kids that expensive tools are worth more than one can imagine, how rushed you are determines the price.

I prefer cast iron. Have Mom's and MIL's dutch ovens. Oldest daughter has already laid claim...

I'm cheap.. I buy clothes at my dirt cheap thrift store but I will spend 300 on one pot in a heartbeat.

thrift stores have nice knives and pots. Occasionally. Patience is a must. Depends on who prices it determines the price. Yes, I haunt pawn shops too.

Yes, requiring the kids to participate in household duties prepares them for the real world. Video games, not so much. My kids can feed themselves, among other things. Give them instructions - prepare supper - and enjoy the results.

ahhh heck a entire set of good caphelon cookware bought at 2 hand stores
We can get some nice pots and pans at the Grocery Outlet here. I look each week when I go shopping and often find good deals. The last one was an aluminium ceramic 12 inch fry pan.

I would like to invest in a good processor type thing..I'm not a fan of too many gadgets but that is one I need to get.
Although I would probably only use it once or twice a year.

A good food processor is a must. Mine get's used every day. I also used it to make all the granddaughter's baby food.

Here's where we get the knives and there are a variety of no cut gloves out there.

Still thinking about you Miss @theuglyduckling

Looks like we need to be doing a lot more than just thinking. TS Maria is expected to do some pretty rapid intensification, and follow a track similar to Irma's during the next few days. If it does what all of the models seem to indicate that it will do, it will run right over Puerto Rico on Thursday as a Cat 3 or 4 hurricane. How hideously ironic that this storm is named Maria.
