that would scare me

we had Wigwam how old am I :old

oh god and they wonder why a kid takes a gun to school :th

Wigwam is probably like our Sheetz stores or the Racetracks in Fl. Regional in most cases - which means I have never heard of Wigwam. lolol

Florida was the only place I lived that had it's own section in the newspaper to list crimes. It was a relief to leave there and return to where the most violent thing in the local paper that week was a disorderly conduct.

Unfortunately, even here is starting to change. Quick news blurb on TV moments ago from Hagerstown was "19 stolen guns" - not sure if found or what. But the murder rate is also higher. I think still under 10 though.

Only place I lived that had cops everywhere, was in Jax Florida. My kids went to schools behind 12 foot fences and a police station inside. At one point, my then 14 year old son, 5'11 and 200 lbs, was attacked by 15 6-7 yr olds who tried to steal his trombone. They did get his watch. The cop stood by 10 feet away and did nothing.

My son asked me, "Mom, what could I do? All I could do was shake them off - I couldn't hit them or anything. They were LITTLE kids!"

That's rediculous! If any kids would try to steal my son's clarinet, he wouldn't be so chivalrous though I don't know if that's a good thing or not. I can't believe the coop stood by and did nothing!

The town I grew up in started adding a couple guards when I was in high school. Not long after that, they started to occasionally bring drug sniffing dogs through the school. No clue what is like down there now. At my kids school now, it's a small district that only has 1 elementary, 1 middle school and 1 high school and covers multiple small towns. There's very little police presence or anything like that. They still say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning and at the end, they say God bless America.

It had to be a relief to get away from there.

Gotta love Sheetz by the way! I got my free Sheetz freak coffee cup a couple months ago lol

I missed getting the cup. lol

Before I moved to my present location, I lived across the road from Sheetz. It was one of my favorite places...esp for fountain soda. They have come a long way since then. Alas, I don't go to town anymore - maybe 2-3 times a month if I HAVE to and often do not stop in.

Yes, even with what crime that does exist around here, it's still a pretty good place to live. The difference between here and big city places, is that you ALREADY KNOW who the troublemaker is, where he or she lives, their first-middle-name, who their parents and grandparents are, how many times they have been arrested, and how long they were in prison.

That's what it's like around here. Sheetz is really the only gas station in our town and we love to get a frozen Kona Mocha every now and then but usualy, we just take our coffee mugs in and refill them for 89 cents :)
