leghorns are one of the earliest to lay eggs--16 to 20 weeks old normally.
We are going into lower daylight hours but if she starts before light goes below 12 hours a day, she will likely keep laying all winter

Looks like these people say any where between 17 and 22 weeks

The leghorn girls are 18 weeks now. I didn't think I'd see eggs, my precious, before Thanksgiving, my precious. We are a whole lot closer than I thought.

I have heard of people, here on BYC mentioning to get the Amish to help build coops or get the Amish to help with this or that.
We have Mexicans for that down here.

We had the Amish do the roof to our rental house when the spouting competely fell off and the soffit/fascia rotted. It was less than $5000 to do all new metal roof on the main roof and both porches, new soffit/fascia, seamless gutters and new supports for the one porch. They had it done in just a couple days.

I taught my daughter to shoot when she was 17 or 18 I think... She wasn't interested before that. A couple years ago her husband asked me to teach him, so I ran him through the basic course and he did pretty well... Then he wanted to try different weapons (they loaned them at the range to increase sales)... He got a kimber 1911 with 5" barrel and asked me to run the first mag through. 15 yards, shot group the size of a quarter. I cleared the weapon and returned it to the counter... He was still standing there with mouth hanging open.

Our kids are 10 (daughter) and 12 (son). Both know how to shoot and can handle the .22 no problem. Our son has shot the .223 rifle and 9mm pistol. Our daughter was too intimidated for that last time. It's been a while so we need to have a refresher course for them.

Never knew that wasn't allowed either....we grew some luffa gotta this year from seeds that were sent to us from Texas (from someone on here actualy lol)

Kids probably won't be allowed near my new table.

Just kidding.
I've been putting making one off...they are old enough now, I think, to not ruin it.

DH and I have decided that we won't be doing any home improvements or buying any new furniture until our kids are grown up and moved out lol

Here's my last major woodworking project. Took me three years working on weekends.

Funny story... After ten years of not being able to agree on a retirement location, DW and I began this adventure. Just the two of us. 90% done, we found our dream location. It was really hard to finish--but the house listed for three days until we had a solid offer. DW wants to know when I'm going to do the kitchen in the new house. ARG

Edited to add: for you bakers out there, yes those are walnut pie rings inlaid into the white maple butcher block counter top.

That is just beyond beautiful! Absolutely stunning work!

I prefer it not look never used.

I like the distressed look too...like an antique farm table.

I agree, stove must be gas, I had three things I insisted on when we had to rebuild in 2005, a gas stove, a gas on demand hot water heater and gas lights on my front porch. DH threw in the ability to use gas or electric dryer in laundry room.
Penny, you always keep us guessing with your avatars. This one is especially cute. I bet you are one tough bird, would want you on my side in a battle!!!

One of those goofy faverolles hasn't laid yet and she's going on six months. I gave up measuring the butt space it was getting old for both of us.

First change I made in the new house was to add a 5 burner gas stove with convection oven and a new fridge with ice maker.
