My planning is to have a full gas tank. We, unlike theuglyduckling, can drive to Tennessee to visit. Can get there under a day, the good Lord and traffic willing. Been through a hurricane. Seen the aftermath. I'm not proud. Kids and Crazy Lady must be safe. (And the dogs and chickens.)

Having gas is a good one. I learned the bad way last year...oh and gas for a gas stove you better stock up on that too.

I think it's handy to make sure you have propane for a gas grill. Through hurricanes in FL and ice storms here in MO being able to cook was extremely helpful. When I bought my last grill I made sure it also had a burner for a pot even though I have yet to use it. With electricity out my kitchen gas stove won't light. Note to self-- need to get a new propane tank for me.

One of those long lighters should light the stove top.

Unless it has an electric valve to open. I'm starting to get grumpy with all these computers who think they know better than I do. Cars for example. Yes, the check engine light is on. But I'm going to work now. NO, we aren't going to see your favorite mechanic first.

I'm about to get an outdoor camp range. Any suggestions? Propane preferred. I tried camp fire cooking, but everyone else was eating while I was playing with the fire. I enjoy playing in the fire when I'm not hungry. BUT when I'm hungry, let's eat. So far, the $100 model from academy is winning. Good idea for hurricane preparedness!

Just do what penny does from the big bang theory and put a sticker over the light

You want a Coleman stove and a good dutch oven. If you can afford it a nice solar oven is good too. And you need to learn how to make a rocket stove out of bricks.

I've cooked on colemans before. I want the stand up and 5 gallon propane bottle kind. One burner preferred, but I could use a second. The one I used at the last camping had 3. Lots of space. Academy special. It worked. Nice legs. Wind screen.

Yes, dutch ovens required. I've got 3 black and one enamel 5 quart and an enamel Goodwill special 2 quart. Amazing what some people give to goodwill. They have no clue. Even got my wursthof knives from goodwill. :D Couldn't believe my luck that day!

Add a griddle and we have sausage in the dutch oven and eggs on the griddle. Heat the tortillas between the eggs. Caramelized onions. Jalepenos. Even better with pico. Cooked 2 dozen eggs. No leftovers.
