Hurricane Earl

Agreed.

Even if Earl is 75 miles off the Cape, the 25ft storm surge, wind and rain of a 250 mile wide storm is still gonna get us.

A lot of prep work today for all the clients today. Pulling docks, boats and securing flyable objects.

I am getting a little nervous.

We are just in a wait and see mode now. They are calling for 100 miles off shore which puts us about 200 miles away. They are using hwy 17 as a dividing line east of it for tropical storm winds, west not. We are about 5 miles east of 17. Somehow I doubt the winds will change much in 5 miles. On a good note for us the winds will be coming out of the north east which means they will be blowing thru alot of woods so the surface winds should be lower. I have a few more things to put away tonight then tomorrow some younger birds that will spend the night in the feed barn.

Just checked the path for New England and it looks like RI, the Cape and the Eastern portion of LI are going to get whacked. We're a little bit inland, so I'm hoping the winds won't be as bad here. The unfortunate thing is the infrastructure is so old here, when the power goes out, it's out for a looooooong time. It looks like then it's going to visit our friends up in the Maine Islands.

I have 10 chicks that shipped today. Not only is it ridiculously hot, but now I am concerned were going to lose power at the end of the week. Hot water bottles and hand warmers are a good idea.

Watch and wait, I guess.

We have a power inverter. It turns DC into AC current. You attach it to a car battery, and you can plug anything that normally runs off house current into it. I don't know just how long you could light a low-wattage lightbulb that way, but it might be one way to keep 10 chickies warm until the lights come back on!

I'm sure the conditions along the East Coast are different then here in the Gulf States, but please, don't take any chances. Hurricane Rita made landfall 125 miles away from me, near Johnsons Bayou, La. On my road, we experienced 7 ft. worth of flooding (yes, we sat in 7 feet worth of water for a day and it took a few days before it completely went down) and there were numerous tornadoes spawned because of her. If you're in a questionable area, get out. Hurricane Rita was a cat 3 when she hit us. Destruction was catastrophic. If you plan on riding it out, please make sure you've got enough supplies on hand to last you a week or two. Sure, seems like a lot, but it's not. Especially when the stores you have get stocked and shelves are cleared within a matter of 20 minutes. Good luck East Coasters.

It's a cat 4 now and they are saying it's going to pass 50 miles off shore. Anybody want to buy some ocean front property?

The sale closes about midnight tomorrow night unless you take the 10% ocean bottom land sale.
