He is a Polish, but he thinks he is a rock star! He is the only chicken in my flock, that I have to bathe regularly!@featherhead007 The bird in your avatar is a Polish, right?
And I forgot to say WELCOME TO BYC, @Eggkazoo!
My Pet Chicken is the only supplier I know of who sells sexed Silkies.....they are notoriously difficult to sex, so if they are sold out I don't know what to tell you. You might be able to get older pullets by doing a little checking around. I hatched out Silkies - 9 eggs hatched, 9 roos. <sigh> And I have to tell you, owning both standards and Silkies in the same flock, that their crow isn't much different than the crow of a big rooster! In fact, all of mine actually had a more high pitched, fingernails-down-the-blackboard sound to them.
And I see @Pork Pie Ken beat me to the suggestion, but I'm leaving it up anyway!![]()
I'm looking on MPC right now and there are some available in may
Great minds! I did the same thing! I see shipments available May 7th and May 10th. Perhaps you didn't know, @Eggkazoo, that you can order now, while they still have them, and set up delivery for those dates. Gives you plenty of time to research, get your coop going, and it'll be warmer for shipping them.
If you want sexed silkies from my pet chicken check their website early Monday and/or Tuesday mornings. The system refreshes those days and if someone has cancelled an order or if their hatches were better than expected those are the days they will show up. Be prepared to pay for them right then tho because if you wait even an hour they'll most likely be gone.I have recently decided that I wanted to own chickens as pets. I’ve always wanted birds but birds like parrots and doves seemed to be a hassle. Then I realized that chickens exist. I’m going for the fluff ball of the chicken world, the silkie! I already have food, a feeder, waterer, heat lamp, and ways of containing them for the first few weeks. Forgot to get grit but that is easily found. The only problem is finding a supplier that can sell you only females. I had found one before on MyPetChicken but it sold out in 30 minutes! Now I’m having trouble finding a supplier that can get me only female silkie chicks. Where I live, roosters aren’t allowed. (Urban area). I do know silkie roosters are quieter then your typical large fowl, I still dont think I could pull it off.
There are also very few places here where I can locally get chickens and I doubt they’d even have silkies if I found one! So shipping is the only option I really have. I only want 5 females! Thanks in advance!
