I’m new to chickens and I’m getting silkies

:welcome There’s so many helpful, knowledgeable folks here and I’m sure you’ll find this site a very useful resource.

I can’t really help with the Silkie question as I’m in UK but I’m a member of various poultry pages on Facebook and often see all sorts of breeds (inc Silkies) pop up for sale from local hobby breeders. Maybe there’s a Facebook page in your state?
Joe, Do the chickens over there bok bok with a Courtney accent?

G'Day from down under Eggkazoo :frowWelcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

There is a chance that there are silkie breeders near you (check out the link in Teila's response). My friend has gotten females shipped from breeders and they were excellent and FEMALE. However, the breeders didn't ship till 4-5 mos. of age to be certain of gender.
