Thank you...I've said that the best thing, any individual, especially union and government workers, could do, is to go out and start their own business.
They would, immediately, find out that government is not the friend of the free thinker and doer.
Those, in the position of govt. power, can only stay there, one way, and that is to establish a voting block [constituency] which is dependent upon what they provide.
Due to human nature tending toward laziness and ease of living, it wasn't hard to figure out that they could get millions trapped into a system of government support....Just don't give them enough to actually accomplish some dream, which they might have, unless that's sitting on the front porch, waiting for the next check.
It only takes, getting one full generation trapped into this mentality, and you have a nation of pliant and compliant sheep, and that has been the goal of the Democratic Party, since President Johnson established the War on Poverty, which was never designed to lift anyone above the poverty level.

I see your point... We have had that conversation before. I do not fully disagree, but I do not see it as clear cut as you state, and surely not a Democratic/Republican issue, both spend our tax dollars like mad.

Royd that is fair criticism. I do not feel all should get on my train though.. Yes I have conflicts within my self! Don't we all? I hear of what you are saying.. I am self employed and suffer at the same hand delt as you, and from past threads generally find agreement with many areas of your philosophy.
However I will say I am not happy with politics in general, as I suspect many are.. Both of our two parties seem to be about corporate welfare first and giving our tax dollars the wealthy.
Some days I am a socialist some a libertarian.. Yes it is an oxymoron... But it is my belief nothing is black and white.... Especially at times like this... We got through the great depression with social programs to create jobs... We have many of those projects to admire yet today. I am not saying nor feel we should encourage folks to sit around and wait for handouts..

Actually Royd the Democrats only give out welfare to keep a portion of their voting block and because they realize that it's important to take care of your population. What personal freedoms are you talking about by the way? You can just cut and paste if you want to. There really isn't much difference between the parties now. They give out much more corporate welfare than they do social welfare. The only real difference is the facades they maintain to keep their base.
Where do the people get with the program and grab a shovel by the way. I heard your Governor just canceled a high speed rail that would have added a lot of jobs and brought money into your state. Sounds like he took the shovels away.

I do agree that politicians are greatly influenced by the big money of corporations or unions.
I see the Tea Party movement as self igniting flame of freedom, brought on by the total corruption and heavy handedness of govt. Honestly, there is only one way for this country to survive, and that is to take the government back about ten notches, starting with a reworked tax system, elimination of entitlements and most of the government work force, especially, bureaucracies, which are only designed to suck the life out of the private sector.
