I am so completely disgusted - Updated

I don't think you have to stop trying to help people, I just think you really, really need to ALWAYS protect yourself first.

It sounds like you have a very good case on your hands, and hopefully you will be made whole in court, and this scoundrel will pay.

I always want to help people too, but I'm way more careful about who I help.

I know exactly what you mean. My hubby wants to live in a time we no longer live in, and sometimes refuses to take the sorts of attitudes and precautions that need to be taken in order to function in the current century. he thinks I'm a little paranoid and untrusting and don't like people much. I think he's a pushover. a wonderful loving generous kind pushover.

I can't tell you how many times I've had to say "Sweetheart... please... step AWAAAAY from the rose colored glasses!"

we've kind of worked that out as a code, he now listens *some*times when I say that, has learned to take it as a clue that maybe he's being a bit too trusting.

the tough part is when I turn out to have been right, and he didn't listen... like your hubby, he's not one to show it much, but I know it hurts him.

sorry it went this way. some men are just wired to help the helpless. even if they're really just putting up a ruse.

That really sucks and I am sorry it happened to you. It seems the world has come to a point where you cannot trust anyone, and even when you do someone a favor or help them, you practically have to have a written legal contract so the expectations are crystal clear.....

My husband is old fashioned and still thinks that you can consider everyone honest until they prove otherwise. I used to be that way....... A long, long time ago. The parasite called hubby today from the deer lease while hubby was out in the rain at a few clients houses. Called to say that it was so rainy that he was coming back to town and did hubby want some help? We haven't let on to anything yet. **I** get that extreme pleasure when he comes in tomorrow morning. Going to act like there's nothing wrong at first and see if I can get a little more incriminating evidence from him. Once he responds... Either by giving it to me or not, I'm going to say "You're fired, here are your things, now get off of our property and do not EVER come back". Not gonna say anything about legalities, I'll let the DA surprise him. He'd probably leave town if i said anything anyway.

I do think he is a bit of a sociopath and have never really cared for him. But of course, it did no good to voice my concerns. He thinks he's much smarter than everyone around him. I wish hubby could have seen the manipulation. Like that website talked about.... He seems to have no conscience. He has never even told us that he appreciated having a place to stay when he needed it.

Anyhow, tomorrow morning should be interesting. I'm pretty much looking forward to it

. The ONLY bright spot I can anticipate at this point. Y'all have a good night and again, the support IS a comfort.

Maybe in future you need to consider having an employment service screen prospective workers? So that before y'all even meet them they have already passed some sort of screening, and the pay and benefits are already covered?

SO this was yesterday which means this should have happened today. What happened?? I wish I had seen this prior to your posting. If you had talked to the DA I would have been surprised that they did not advise you to have police or them available at the time of his being confronted so they could gather evidence, and prevent flight.

Wellll, it went fine. We had cleaned out the parasite's work vehicle and put together all of the evidence that we could find there, there was plenty. I had asked him for his receipt book last week. He said he couldn't find it and may have left it at a customer's house. So this morning, I "just happened" to be working out front where the work vehicles are when he drove up. They don't start work until 7:30..... But lo and behold, here it was 7:00 (still dark) and he's already here. So when he stepped out of his vehicle, I asked him if he had been able to find the book over the weekend. He says "Noooo, but that's why I'm here early this morning, I'm going to clean out this truck and see if I can find it". He knew that there was incriminating stuff in the truck so he got here early so that he could dispose of all of it.

I told him "Well, I'll tell you what.... You're fired. I have all of your belongings from the truck in the shop. We're going to step over there so you can get those and then when we're done with that, you're going to get off of our property and don't even think of ever coming back". He said okay.... so we walked over to the shop and he asked "Are you going to tell me what's going on? I asked him if he thought I really needed to tell him and he said "Yeah". I said "Parasite (I called him by name), you've been stealing money from us". He says "How have I been stealing money from you"? I said "Do NOT play me for a fool any longer". He said "I'd like to know what's going on". I said "You just need to leave before I change my mind and decide to notify the sheriff's dept." His eyes got big, he said "Okay" and off he went. I wanted him to think that we had only found one or two things and were just letting it go with firing him.....and not notifying the authorities. Don't want to give him a reason to hightail it out of the area.

He had been purchasing parts on the company charge accounts (which he was authorized to do), then installing the parts and doing the repairs and pocketing the money..... Nice setup, huh? He only did this with people that were new customers or not regular customers. He still turned in SOME work reports and checks and even a little bit of cash. But the larger cash amounts and checks were just too tempting, I guess.

We did not speak with the DA's office ourselves.... Our friend the former sheriff spoke with an assistant DA and set up our meeting for tomorrow. This being Columbus Day...... the DA's office is closed. There was no way that we were going to allow him to work one additional day for us so he had to go this morning. At this point we have lots of his notes and basically a daily journal of all of the customers he spoke with. We will turn that and everything else we found over to the DA and hope we get an indictment. We also have a lot of customers that will be willing to help when it comes time for providing cancelled checks and even testifying. The DA's office or the police could not have prevented him from leaving as they would have needed a warrant for his arrest or a search warrant. It may have been chancy to fire him without "backup" but we felt like this was the best way to proceed. He would have to be an idiot to add assault to the charges he's going to be facing.

As far as having an employment service screen prospective employees, as I said earlier we are a small company. Including the parasite, we had 3 whole employees

. Now we have two. However, at this point I think my husband will let me handle hiring and firing from now on and that WILL include in depth background checks. We've been burned a couple of times, but this one takes the cake. A very expensive cake.

My husband is so funny

. Last night he was on the internet googling "stolen checks". I asked him why he was looking that up. He said that that's what he had done..... Stolen our checks

. The penalties for stolen checks are amazingly light and he was a little ticked about that. I told him to try looking up embezzlement. LOL, he was much happier with the penalties Texas has for THAT! Tomorrow brings the appointment with the DA's office. I'm looking forward to finding out how we proceed from here.

My husband has surgery scheduled for Wednesday to remove a Basal Cell, please keep him in your prayers.

The DAs office called today to get some additional information about the parasite. She told me that they had been having a great response from the people that had been contacted with requests for copies of checks and that sort of thing. I was so cheered to hear this as I had visions of our little case sitting on a shelf moldering while they went after bigger fish. I told her how much Bob and I appreciate their efforts and that while it's unlikely we'll ever see a dime of the money, we would like to put him out of commission even if it's only for a while. At least he won't be ripping anyone else off during that time.

You were all so kind when I first posted thus that I wanted to share the good news
