I can't imagine living in the North....

I live in the middle and get the best of both worlds!

Little to no humidity in the very mild summer, very few biting bugs, beautiful crisp fall days with blazing colors on the mountains, a few inches of snow per winter with a rare dip into the teens for a few days each year, beautiful spring that comes softly and soothes the senses. No extremes here....just beautiful four seasons. My chickens love every second of it and so do I!

You couldn't pay me to live down south, unless of course it was in the Caribbean......

I wouldn't want to live way up north either but it would be waaaaayyyyyyy better than sweating for 10 months out of the year, no snow for Christmas, mosquitoes big enough to carry your car away and hurricanes galore. Keep yer warm winter....I love the snow, the crisp starry nights, animals with frosty breath and thick, gorgeous fur.

Hum we tend to doge hurricanes here- mostly

seen fewer real hurricanes then I've seen snow- and this is N FL...

it was ...80*F today... but the climate is not changing....

Funny how in a city of bridges that snow cripples the town...instantly- the one bridge that was accesable (due to lack of steap grade and steel surface) has been replaced by one too steep to travel on in snow...

Next time it snows here it'll be real fun.

only... um 1989+ 100 ... 2089 - 2009 = 80... eighty more years to go.

Having lived in Chicago, New Jersey, Ohio, and now Kansas, I am so ready for a WARM winter!!!! Just don't be mad if I head back up North during the summer

Your funny ChickieBooBoo, I like the popsicle image. LOL! Were you able to warm her up, maybe even bring her inside for a spell? Hope so!

Maryland here - born and raised! Don't know that I'd live anywhere else, because this is what I'm used to - four seasons: really hot sticky summers, freezing cold winters, but spring and fall are absolutely PERFECT!

We're apparently heading into a 24 hour heat wave today - its supposed to get up to 60 degrees this afternoon!!! YAY!!! But that's typical here - I can remember having a white Christmas one year, and then being outside in a t-shirt on New Years Day. They say that if you don't like the weather in Maryland today, just stick around because it will be different tomorrow!

I think Ohio is the armpit of the world when it comes to weather, winter and summer both. Summer time the temperatures can climb to the 90's and even reach 100 degree F. with humidity that is well over 80%. You can't get dry, you just sit and sweat! That dampness is the great destroyer, it will rot almost anything, exposed wood like decks, house siding, picnic tables, etc., things like car tires, lawn mower tires and seats, anything you forget outside goes back to nature. It either rusts or rots! Some summers it rains, and rains, and rains.............and rains. The farmers either can't get their crops out or it drowns them after their out. Granted, those years that it rains like that, I've taken some of the most gorgeous pictures you can imagine from my back door. It looks like the Emerald Isle when there is that much water, all the native flora takes over and its like a jungle! Then there's the opposite extreme of the summer droughts, and everything that should be green just turns dead brown and the crops die in the fields.
It is a horrible site.

Regarding winter, WOW........really not much to recommend Ohio winters, they stink. They are the worst, really! This is where the term "H... on earth" was born, I'm sure. It gets cold, but it's not JUST cold, it's cold and DAMP. That humidity that I was telling you about that we have in the summer, well we have it in the winter too, and the wind blows and it cuts right through you. I've lived in the Colorado and Wyoming and Arizona and Florida. I will take the winters in Wyoming any day over the Ohio winters. The clouds roll in in November and don't leave until about the end of March, so if you have tendency toward SAD you're really in trouble. There's very little snow but lots of ice and mud. Yesterday I had to throw down some hay on the ground to give my chickens a way up out of the mud and the slop. I hate it! Particularly for them. They actually don't seem to mind. They get up on their perches and much prefer to stay outside to staying in their coops. ??? Go figure ????

Now the positives, and believe me there are some, just about all take place in the spring and fall. Both of these are Gods gift to this world. There is no more beautiful place on the face of the earth than Ohio in the spring and then in the fall. I will also say that there are some days in the summer and winter that are truly glorious, but they are fleeting. Only those who live here will catch them, or those who will be given access by the Grace of God on their travels through.
Why do I live here? My family and friends.............period. It's a nice place to visit (spring and fall) but I wouldn't want to live here.

You are all making me cold...I'm going to bed to snuggle and warm up with the dogs and a couple cats if there's room. The birds are all happy in their deep straw bedding and full tummies/crops. I want to move a tiny bit southward, but its got to be near an ocean and beach, mountains and easy to hike, where no one cares how many dogs, cats, and birds I love/live with and where I can walk to work if I have to. I always envy and enjoy the pics of birds on green grass...I know mine would love that!

I would have to completely agree with this entire statement. Ohio winters are the worst, nothing but damp, cold, and grey.

I would love to move up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They have some truely spectacular winters. We go up and snowmobile and you can get 18" of snow overnight, but then the sun comes out and the snow is clinging to the pine trees and its so quiet, georgous!

Yep... I second your opinion. However there are no seal at Lake Erie. LOL...

It's weird how when you take a deep breath on a cold night you CAN actually taste the cold air... awesome right?

Don't get me wrong, I do love those vaccations in the middle of the winter to a warm far away place!
