I can't imagine living in the North....

Any where North of Canton Ga is great, mild winters, 4 seasons and it's north of the gnat line so its great. Plus we have Mountains.

My hens are going to ask to fly south...

It's positively balmy where you are at. It's currently 3 degrees with a 20 mph wind up here in NH. You walk outside here and your eyelids stick to your eyes. Ridiculous!

Anywhere in NC is pretty good! But be advised. . . .

Union County, NC, where I have lived for nearly 40 years, is right now the fastest growing county in NC, and the tenth fastest growing county in the United States! I love my community, but it's gotten way WAY too attractive.

Consider any county to the east of Union. They're still country, and there's lots of room.

I'll tell ya, Winter really hit us fast this year. Thanks giving was like 68. A week later we were below freezing. Tonight it's supposed to go below 0.

The info I got from this website was really helpful in preparing. One of the things they said was don't think of it as yourself out there. There chickens w/ heavy down and feathers and they'll adjust to it. It could be dangerous to keep the coop too warm. Having said that I was thinking I might try the heat lamp tonight for about an hour after dark and an hour before sunrise.

Seasons Greetings from New England

Now, see, if it's going to be as cold out there as it is right now (19°F with a bitter wind) then I want it to look like that out there! I don't mind the winter, I love snow, it keeps my plants tucked into the garden nicely - and gives me time to recharge for the next season. Plus it brings my absolute favorite season, Spring. As for your warm climate, I couldn't live down there - I absolutely hate heat and humidity. You can put on enough clothes to stay warm, but you can't take off enough to get cool.

You might want to cross NC off your list, or at least Eastern NC.

The mosquito's are big enough that they have to check in with the FAA since they show on radar
swamps everywhere, snakes in the front yard....backyard, in the barns - really..... we had to put a sign up in the driveway

, it's hot in the summer
We just had a Nor-easter that washed away part of the highway on the outer banks
Hurricaines- if they don't hit Florida or the Gulf Coast they hit here and even if they hit the other two they still end up here.

I love it here!
