I concede defeat! I killed perfectly good showgirl hatching eggs.

Oh and I'll be off to buy a brand new electronic monitoring station for the "hatcher of doom". I have 2 thermometers in there and they coincide, but only the one hygrometer.

Also, I have some very expensive "show" eggs that should be here today. These will go into HOD from start to finish. I'm done moving.... Hopefully in this way I can stop the carnage.

Oh and let me say. The "incubator" of record is an LG. So obviously I can develop eggs, I just can't move them from LG1 to the HOD. I am doing something wrong. The biggest variable is the hygrometer.. that I am not sure about.

In LG1 I have a monitoring station. It beams info right to my desk, if something changes I can jump up and run in there and adjust.

I'll be getting one for the HOD too. Especially since I'll be tipping it 3X a day.

Tipping?

My favorite Hygrometers are the cheap little $5 analog ones you
can get in any pet store.

I've been tipping the whole incubator instead of turning each egg. It's been working really well in LG1 and my temps and humidity don't fluctuate as much as having to open the lid. There is still a big change in temp but since I have the "monitoring station", I can dash in there right away and adjust the temp back to where it should be.

I keep the levels in the tray low enough that when I tip it they don't spill out. Now I've put a dish in there because there are so many eggs in there I can't get to the trays.

If the LG is forced air(has a fan) than tipping is ok.

I'd consider incubating the eggs in paper egg cartons if you are
tipping the entire thing. Hatching in cartons works great too.

I soooo love my new Dickey! It has held and held and held the temp and humidity. I've not gotten to hatch yet, but the incubating is going so well. I went with the auto water so there is no need to open the box at all, except when I can't stand it anymore and have to see the chicks move in those eggs.

If you are having trouble with temp spikes I would try putting some bottles of water in there as heat sinks to greatly slow the speed of temp spikes, thus shortening the time, gives you time to correct it before it gets too bad. I don't have LG, I have Hovabators and have killed my share of hundreds of eggs, lemme tell you! If you have access to eggs, just keep incubating and adjusting till you get it right. everyone has to figure out what works for their individual setup/weather/bator/schedule/budget/what have you... And once you got your bator tweaked just right, if you took it over to your friend's house, you would have to start all over... I know that is not much help, but I hope it is some help. Hang in there. You WILL get it dialed in just right and be off and running soon.
