I DON'T like silkies!

The reason I mentioned feeding him to the dog, she is colorblind. I am not hungry enough to prepare blue meat for me to eat, yet.....

Though I don't care for Silkies and never have, it's great that there is a chicken breed that appeals to just about everyone. And tastes can change, too. I used to be turned off by muffs, beards and feathered legs. I'm still not all that fond of feathered legs, however, I adore my Ameraucanas and EEs (their personalities won me over) and if I ever got into a bantam breed, I think the Porcelain D'Uccles are gorgeous. I'd probably even like a Silkie if I accidentally came into possession of one. (that is not an invitation to send me Silkie eggs

I think they are adorable. I have all types of chickens but actually no silkie. I have thought about getting one but the vulnerability of the vaulted skull stops me. I'd hate to get attached to one and then find it dead due to a peck on the head. I do realize this is a possibility with any chicken but I think the silkies are more at risk. I first saw one at a rescue event actually geared more for dogs, the person I was with went running over to them thinking they were toy poodles ;-)

BTW - I have a bantam cochin cockeral that does his little mating dance around my poms, so that isn't just a silkie thing.

I admit to being sucked in by their tribble cuteness. Actually, that's not true. I got sucked in initially by their weirdness and then was won over by their sweetness. I do like my "normal" chickens and I love the big eggs. But the silkies are just happy little things. While my LF girls have little to do with me (unless I am handing out the treats), the silkies seem to want to be held and cuddled. Mine are my most consistent egg layers and they go broody just often enough to keep me happy with chicks. While I admit they look a little freaky, they are the chickens that every visitor to my yard comments on. Child visitors immediately want to pet them. I find them to be excellent chicken ambassadors.
They have a place in the chicken kingdom, even if it is a little off-the-wall. Now showgirls on the other hand...
