I feel so bad! My quails were fighting!

i am so upset. This morning I went out to the coop to find one female standing on top of a stand with a bloody mess where one eye was. The other eye is fine and she was eating and running around but is missing an eye! . I’ve done all i know, they have enough room and I give them meal worms as treats and vita sol in the water. They eat Qauil feed with protein and they have places to hid (a small Edibal cave I got at pet smart) and toys. The male Alexander has been picking on this bird But never like this. I always new she was at the bottom of the pecking order but my chickens have never done this. I put the injured female is a dog kennel inside with food and water. What do I do? I could remove Alexander and put him in a different coop but then I’m worried about him getting lonely and then starting to hurt himself. I know the best option would to be cull one of them but I want to find a different awnser. I should of taken more precaution when I noticed her getting picked on, I feel like I failed as a bird keeper. Anyone have any ideas?

Poor quail! Keeping the injured hen separate until she can heal is probably best, but I wouldn't separate the aggressive male unless he's attacking the others as well.

What kind of quail are they? How many in one pen? Can you post a picture of their enclosure?

I left the female with my mother but I’m currently at school. (High school bird keeper). There are 6 including the injured one. When I get home I will take all the photos and they are coturnix. I hatched them about 3 months ago. Sorry for the lack of photos I was freaking out while separating her and then I had to leave to school so my mother is watching her. The male Alex is smaller then most of the females but he has always been very dominant I guess to say, he would push his way to the treats and such and yells a lot. Should I just keep the female in a separate area?

Thank you, she does not seem in pain, my mom says she I still eating and does not seem to be acting odd what so ever. When I was with her she seemed normal, normally I would expect fatigue after something like this. I’ve raised chickens and I will say quails are comeplety different, they just seem much more hardcore.

I have had quail come back completely from what looked like completely missing eyes. So do not lose hope yet.

Any chance it could be another cock instead of a hen. Hatch some more and put it with them in another cage.

I will, I got the stuff for a separate coop and I’m separating her.
