I bought three chickens in early March this year (they are about 11-12 weeks old). we were told they were hens but I'm not too sure.
the two black chickens in the photo below are very protective of each other and we have heard a few coockadoodles but I read that hens can still crow in rare conditions. now that I have started doing more research about this I have started second-guessing myself and the breeder. the smaller black one (#2) has a slightly curved tail and the bigger black (#1) one has a larger more red wattle and comb and people keep thinking that she is actually a he. we are pretty positive that the white one (#3, #4, #5)is a pullet but just double-checking to be sure! we would also like to know what breed because we weren't told (thinking one was australorp). probably should have checked with the breeder before buying. if they are roosters that would be a slight problem as we are not allowed them in our area and the kids have gotten so attached that the thought of a rooster sends them to tears. they have become best friends in a matter of weeks! if you think they are cockerels/roosters would you know where we could take them that will allow the kids to see them every now and then? last thing (sorry I'm really new to this, going to have to do more research), if we do have roosters would it be fine for us to get day-old chickens to mix in with the one/s that we will have left? would that be okay or would it cause too much trouble?

The first bird is a cockerel, and the other two are pullets. All are cross bred birds.
