I got an "intervention" email

No, she has given me chickens (that she has rescued) of her own free will. Honest. I stole the barred rock from my neighbor with whom I rarely speak. She is also the person who gave me a guinea hen and told me that if I only had one it wouldn't make much noise....

my DH and my son keep telling me I have a problem, and that "you had better not order any more eggs", but they enjoy it too.

My son came home the other day from school and announced that someone up the road has modern games (which he loves). He also wants to know when we are going to get that cochin rooster from the man at the antique store.

my DH rolls his eyes at me then brags about our "chicken farm" when talking to complete strangers.

don't let them fool you! they are addicted to!

just think, its not drugs, I don't drink, its a whole lot cheaper than some things folks collect, and we meet great new people all the time!

what could possibly be wrong with that!

We also play the "that would make a great coop game". I tried to convince my hubby that stealing one of the clothing donation sheds wouldn't be that wrong, because anyone could see that it was really meant to be a coop.

Besides, goodwill didn't really need it anyway. I snuck another new chick in this week. Poor man just shook his head and rolled his eyes. I don't have a problem, I could stop anytime.

One of the first things people ask when I see them is, "how's the chickens?" Not how's work, the family, or the fire department, etc. On the one hand they think I'm a nut, yet they are very interested in every aspect of the whole raising chicken thing, and oh, by the way, can I have some eggs? When they come over, it's always, "can we go see the chickens?" IMHO.....who's really the nut? I just raise them......but you non-chicken people have an unhealthy obsession with other peoples' chickens!!!

Soon after I got my chickens I was telling a friend about it and also telling her others that I wanted to get....She paused a minute then said.....why do you want more??....
I didn't know what to say....
I just do?????

I know! That's what my friend seems to be saying. Why would I want more than a few hens to provide eggs for my family?? This from a woman who used to have a beautiful mixed flock free ranging in her yard. I want more because I don't currently have a BO and I really like the look of Black Austrolorps and EEs because I want to have my own greenish eggs, and I want Barnevelders because my grandfather was Dutch, oh and some Welsummers for some more darker brown eggs and my son loves the looks of silkies so we'll hatch a few of those and .....
Why does that have to be a problem?????

Don't worry about it, you definitely don't have a problem. It's not like you hide chickens from your family or anything like that... I mean, just because I have tried to figure out how to hide more chickens doesn't mean anything, I haven't actually gotten more chickens on the sly. And what's wrong with wanting tinted eggs? Or darker eggs? Nothing. And the sheen on the Black Australorp... oh it's pretty. My Francis is a BA, and she's BEAUTIFUL! All of those people that roll their eyes at us, they're just OBVIOUSLY jealous of us. Of course they are. They don't have any of these adorable, cute, goofy birds to play with. And THEIR pets don't give THEM breakfast! Oh, yes. They're jealous of us. So just smile and nod and remind them of the things that THEY have to be thankful for, and don't let it show that you know that you OBVIOUSLY have much more to be thankful for. Just remember that they need our compassion in their lack. And if you want to be REALLY nice? Offer to add a few chicks onto your order for them. That's above and beyond, I know, because as soon as you see them, you'll want to keep them. So, I guess if you have it in you, you can offer. But I will pray for your poor friend. Poor, poor thing.

Wait....Stressed about feeding a chicken and getting nothing in return? Well then, we need to stop feeding children and homeless people. And for that matter she can eat the dang chicken if shes so stressed about what she gets in return.

LOL, she is getting 3 dorkings in the same order with me.
Some people have aquariums, I have chickens. At least I get something in return from them most of the time. Not right now but sometimes and egg or two! Of course that is her arguement, what to do when they stop laying.
