Hate wrapping presents? Then you just need to use some imagination, for example:

Put the young boy’s gifts of socks and underwear in a 22LR box.

Put your DW's kitchen gadget in a sack with "Fredericks of Hollywood" label on it.

Use paper Mache to shape the item into something else, then duct tape wrap it to maintain the new shape-----I made a toy look like a cat wrapped up in paper.

A lump of coal (charcoal Bridget) wrapped and in the stockings is always good.

For those that like to pick up and shake it to see what it might be-----I wrapped a concrete block for them, real good so they couldn't just peel back the paper to see what’s inside.

Any jewelry should be nestled in multiple boxes of increasing size, at least ten which you use strapping tape to seal each such that every box takes 15 minutes or more to open.

Alternately, I know my mom invested in a nesting set of festive giftboxes that get reused at her house year after year.

I wrapped one present in a laundry bag. I've wrapped gifts in pillow cases, too. Tied it with a bow. This is great for odd shaped things. Those decorative boxes meant for wine bottles are good for gifts. They sell pretty drawstring bags that you can reuse each year, too. Wrap a small gift in a new sock...and stuff the 2nd sock in the top of the sock. Recycle metal tins by using them to wrap gifts.

Cut squares of fabric with pinking scissors (they make those zig zag edges), pull it up around the gift & tie with a piece of ribbon. Reuse from year to year. No sewing needed.

I'd do this for ALL gifts but my family objects...they want to rip paper. Sigh...

So, I have a wide variety of 50 cent rolls bought on clearance & at thrift shops. I hate wrapping stuff in paper to have it thrown away. I secretly salvage the good pieces and roll them for reuse...

I love wrapping presents, I think I am quite good at it too.
I also love unwrapping presents

I have always been awful at wrapping presents. The ends bulge at the corners where the paper is supposed to be folded perfectly, and it kind of looks like a 5 year old did it.

If it really matters how it looks, I use a gift bag with tissue paper.

^Sis had a BF who had a mom who was a HOARDER... I mean INSANE hoarder... of Christmas stuff. They offloaded a ton on us, literally TOTES full, and still had a whole garage and two rooms to boot... I gave a ton to MIL and SIL (mostly giftbags) and here it is a few YEARS later and we've still not used them all up.

As to cutting too short... that's what those leftover pieces are for... strap one of them down, then wrap like you meant to do that. Better if it's on the bottom, but you can make do... also a good way to use up the last of a roll.

Think the weirdest one I had was the 40lb punching bag... THAT was an adventure. Box was too large for any wrap to fit so it was a two piece job, required DH helping with lifting/shifting without tearing... but BOY oh BOY was it fun when DS tried to snoop and couldn't move the bugger. He was convinced that mom had pulled a sneaky and filled up a huge box with bricks that really only hid a tiny thing.

Least I didn't add any beans... to that one. Grama taught me well.
