Thats only what Christmas is if you let it be. We actually spent most of our holiday time this year getting warmies ready for out scout to take to a shelter, and more time signing and decorating almost 100 cards for a couple nursing homes, the kids took $10 each and tried to buy little treats for the adults so they won't feel left out since the adults in our family do not buy presents for each other. We did food baskets together. We spent an afternoon visiting at the nursing home, caroling, and giving out hugs and Christmas treats. All that was done while singing some holy and some just silly old fashioned Christmas songs. It wasn't empty. It was fun and hopefully it was done with the right spirit.
This is what I tell my kids. Once upon a time there was a Santa Clause. His name was St Nick and he lived a long time ago. He didn't come to replace Jesus but he came to celebrate by helping others in need at Christmas. So when we think of Santa we can say he is real because if we remember that being with each other and showing love to others is the real spirit of Christmas then he is still alive. We can't see him but he is there. They are content with that and they don't argue about how his sled gets around the world, or the dangers of climbing on strangers roof's, or why didn't Santa just get fog lights and leave Rudolf home. They just smile and keep celebrating and singing. Everything is how you look at it. Every single day is like that. Holiday's just give us a great reason to make one day count a bit more than usual. You decide how it will count and what it will mean. Thats just my opinion but it works.
" there was Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer and Vixin...Comet, and Cupid, and Donner, and Blitzen. But do you recall the most famous reindeer of all......." Merry Christmas Ya'll
