I have no luck with shipped eggs!

I had a Buyer tell me that if I couldnt give her the number she wanted of eggs right off, to just put them in the fridge until I had enough to ship. She said she has hatched several refridgerated eggs, without a problem.

I absolutely agree 100% with this. I had RATHER someone refrigerate my eggs prior to shipping. I do this will all my own hatching eggs but DON'T do it for eggs that I ship to others unless they ask me to.

Most people think 2-3 day old eggs are necessary for a good hatch but I disagree. I'm sure after an extended period, the eggs begin to lose some fertility, but refrigeration helps to keep the eggs fresher IMO.

I've had three 100% hatches of my own eggs that were stored in the refrigerator for up to about 10 days before I had the amount I wanted to put in the bator.

I agree that shipping is so hard on the eggs...even if the box is intact. The scanners that mail is put through should NOT affect the fertility of the egg...per my extension office at the University of Florida poultry department. It's the tossing of the boxes that cause the scrambling of the egg and broken aircells. I'm racking my brain trying to come up with some way that will prevent this. I think if I put them in a box with a pointed, handled top...like the boxes that we ship chickens in...they can't be stack or thrown as easily. I'm searching for something like this and as soon as I find it, I'll start shipping eggs in it and see if it makes a difference.
