I Have Shingles! ** UPDATE** Now My Daughter Has Chicken Pox! (Pg 10)

I'm telling you, yarrow as a topical does much more without any harm nor addiction and no after or during effects, is freely found growing wild and works immediately. But if no one wants to listen, I'll quit sharing that important message right now.

So sorry ... I was doing a little research on Yarrow for this purpose and hadn't found enough info to post an intelligent response to your suggestion yet! Not ignoring you

Many people take Tagamet for shingles. One cannot take it internally while taking Tagamet due to a drug interaction. Probably wouldn't do anything negative if only used topically though.

Hi,
I am surprised your Dr. did not put you on an antiviral med. My daughter got them and it knocked them right out. Its the same as the one they give for herpes, which is also a virus.
You can not get shingles unless you have had chicken pox earlier. The virus does not go away once you have it. It hides in a nerve ending until your resistance is down and then jumps up to persecute you.
Be sure to get plenty of rest so your body can put it away again. Prayers Jean

Wow, this thread has taken flight without me! I must step in and update you.

First off, the shingles are on my lower back, along my spine and moving left. I didn't see a doctor until about 2 hours ago, but I already knew it was shingles, as I had them in high school. The doctor gave me Acyclovir for the virus, Gabapentin for nerve pain, and Oxycodone for pain once I'm done with the Gabapentin. Yay! I LOVE Oxycodone

Thanks for all the suggestions such as yarrow, Lysine, B complex, etc. If shingles start to become more regular for me (OH GOD I HOPE NOT) I will certainly look into all of these. I already take lots of B-1 and B-12, as I had a gastric bypass in December, and those are important for me already. It wouldn't be much to add a few more vitamins, etc.

I am really inspired by all of you coming forth and telling me your stories, whether shingles or Autism or whatever, you all know how to keep a person from feeling alone. It is like you all rally around when you are needed most, and that is a beautiful thing to experience. Thank you so very much!

Did I tell you I'm on Day 19 in my 2nd hatch? More to think about!

I'll stay calm, though. I promise.

Hope you feel better soon dangerouschicken, Shingles is a stress related disease and shows up like it does on your skin, usually in a vulnerable area. I think it's painful because it affects the nerve endings in the skin. Hubby had it once during 'tax season' he's an accountant. And my dad got it in his 90's when my mom died. Hope you heal soon. you are not alone in this kind of auto immune kind of illness these days.

We all need to live the country life with our chickens and other animals and enjoy our patch of heaven and make the best of it, and TRY to live as simply as possible. What was that saying...simplify, simplify...

My thoughts and prayers for your daughter and family. Autism is out
of control. There are many new techniques for handling kids with the
condition.

As for your shingles all I can say is "ouch". The few people I know who have
had them were put on codiene based pain relievers.

Your chickens will be safe. Chicken Pox is not transferable to chickens.

Keep that chin up my chicken buddy!!!
