I Have Shingles! ** UPDATE** Now My Daughter Has Chicken Pox! (Pg 10)

Oh my, DC! That seems to have happened so quickly! I was so surprised to see your post.....You'll certainly have a special place in my thoughts and prayers. Now is the time when all the warmth and caring you show to others is returned to you........we're all pulling for you to make a speedy recovery! :aww

So sorry to hear that! When I had it, I was between jobs and could just lay around and not even get dressed. Even clothing touching me was painful. I hope it's over soon.

I hear ya! It has traveled around to the front of me, so no matter if I am sleeping on my back or stomach, it is like prickly needles of death! BUT I am holding it together with the oxy-codone.

I was so HIGH yesterday

, I had the energy to can tons of tomatoes, I made food for the family, did all the laundry, and tended to my 13 eggs hatching in the bator. It was amazing! Today was a repeat, and I didn't even take the oxy-codone. So the nerve pain is better. I think all your well-wishes have really helped.

Thank you so much!

OH and my chicks hatching are just mixes from my home flock, but so far I have 7 gorgeous chicks, one almost out, and 5 more pipping! So if they all make it, that is 100%!

YAY!

What you have sounds more like hives than shingles.

Shingles come only on one side at a time and benadryl is only a temporary help for shingles and makes you tired.

Beg to differ.

I have had them so badly that I have had 3 to 4 different outbreaks in different stages going on either side of my sciatic nerve. I have had post herpetic neuralgia so bad that I couldn't stand, couldn't sit, couldn't do anything. And that was with NO outbreak. The benadryl helps greatly with the itching before the blisters come up. And, it will help you sleep so you can get some rest rather than feeling like you are on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I've had hives. I have allergies. I wish to God it was hives, but, unfortunately, it's not. I have between 8-20 outbreaks a year. Usually once every 6-8 weeks. Sometimes 2-3 times in one month. When it moves to a new spot is when the prodromal symptoms and the neuralgia is the worst.

Don't want to come across rude, or have people feel like I am trying to hijack the thread, but unless you have had shingles, you don't understand how it feels to have someone tell you that you don't, or it's not that bad. It is a very sensitive subject.

Dangerous-so glad you got on some medication that works for you!

Are they planning on keeping you on a maintenance dose of the antiviral to help prevent future attacks? Keep us posted! Hope you don't get it again!

I only have them on one side, but 2 different areas going right now - head and shoulder. In the past I've had them completely cover one whole side near my shoulder.

They do stay on one side UNLESS you have a seriously compromised immune system.

You're right about the permanent damage tho'. I have some muscle wasting from nerve damage.

The pain is something you can't believe is possible until you experience it. The only thing I can say to people so they can understand: "have you ever been badly burned? Imagine if that lasted 6 weeks and covered a large area of you body"

People with AIDS who get shingles all over their bodies sometimes commit suicide because of the pain.

I just saw this post because i've been away for a week. I have never had shingles but friends have. I'm sorry they are so painful. I'm glad you have gotten some meds.

How long does your doctor think you will have them. I know they can take awhile to get rid of.
