I have to talk POLISH!

Do the Crele Polish gave any auto sexing potential?
I am looking to switch to all auto sexing, and I really like my Polish. I have just had a hard time getting hens. Are the Crele as poor eggs layers as the rest?
Yes...mine are sex-linked by color. Mine have been very good layers. If my chicks are dark they later start showing the copper color as they mature and they are male. IF they are yellow they mature out to the diluted crele and female....red and they are female. I have hatched out about 200 chicks and the colors have not failed yet. I was really surprised and took me a year to realize it.
Most hens lay everyday but they do take a break for a couple weeks from time to time. I WISH I could get a female with the male features but it just hasn't happened. I don't know if it is just me or others with them have the same results.

I would love to get some of the Crele Polish. I am in Calif too. I could arrange a trip to pick up eggs. I think we would get some Cream Legbars too. We have a trio now. My thought was to cross the two, then select for productivity, crest, white eggs and auto sexing. And work up to a auto sexing crele Polish. That color pattern seems to have the highest likely hood of auto sexing.

Any thoughts? Anyone else working on auto sexing Polish?
So far going on 3 years with my Creles and so far they have always been auto-sexed. I live in Tennessee...but I do ship eggs and am considering shipping chicks when I get my NPIP finished.

I bred my Barred Polish Rooster to a BBR Icelandic crested hen. The babies are 11 weeks old. I plan to breed the female babies to a BBR rooster (Welsummer, Icelandic or OEGB) . I will then take the crele roosters from that cross and breed them back to the BBR hen. I realize it will take generations to get the crest, egg color and confirmation but I think it is important to create a true crele because only then can they be auto-sexing.

I know you have a solid understanding of genetics - what are your thoughts? Think it will work? Have any suggestions on how to improve the plan?

My concern is: I will loose alot of the Polish traits when I breed outside the Polish breed, but I am not sure how else I can achieve a true crele since BBR do not exist in the breed. The crests on the Icelandic X Polish are pretty decent. I will try getting some pictures of them tomorrow to show you.

Oh, I also have a Silver Duckwing Phoenix X Barred Polish chicks. They are super cute. Not sure what to do with them. I am considering crossing them with my Cream Legbar rooster.
What is interesting is the lacing you have on some of yours. Is that from the Icelandics? Really interesting.

As far as I am aware, True Crele Polish do not exist. To create Crele you need to cross a barred rooster with a BBR hen. Unfortunately, the BBR color does not exist in the Polish breed. I know there are lots of people working on the Crele Polish, and perhaps someone has created a true auto-sexing crele. If so, I would love to know about it.

Sorry, I am not offering Crele Polish chicks or hatching eggs. I want to develop the Crele Project further before releasing the eggs/ chicks.

I have a second project that I have been working on. I call it Crele Laced. The Crele Laced is NOT true crele - it is basically a barred/laced pattern. It is not recognized by the breed association but I am very happy with the pattern, color and consistent patterning of the offspring. The roosters and hens are equally gorgeous. I have lots of photos on my website.

When were you hoping to come up? The calendar on the Cream Legbars is filling in so we will need to figure out a date when I will have CL eggs available.

Wow, I just read this. Very exciting. I did not know there were auto-sexing Crele Polish. Do you have any pictures of your chicks? I'd love to see them.

Where did you get your original breeding stock?

No the addition of the Icelandic was only recent. The babies are only 11 weeks old and I have not taken photos of them yet. I will get some soon and post them. I introduced the BBR Icelandic to help improve my Crele Polish Project.

The Crele Laced project is a separate project. I should probably come up with a different name so it is less confusing. The lacing you see in the Crele Laced project comes from a Gold Laced Polish. I breed a Gold Laced hen into the crele line 5 generations ago. I then breed the pullets from that cross to a Crele Project rooster. Four generations later and the Gold Laced has been replaced by the crele laced pattern you see in the pictures.

I got my eggs from someone here on BYC. They did not divulge that they where project eggs but I was very happy with my pair; Thing is....I paid a great deal of money to them to wait 6 mo before I received 2 doz eggs packed in rough shavings. Of course most where broken and air sacs detached. Only 2 viable eggs...1 hatched. I emailed for 2 weeks with no response..out of the blue I get a box that when I opened it had to take it outside because of so many rotten eggs. They sent 5 doz. most rotten..and broken only 3 viable eggs..1 hatched. Thank goodness I did get a pair. It was a nightmare though and I truly feel they sent the last ones on purpose. They never would respond to my messages or emails. Anyway....it still needed work so I continued the project on my own almost 3 years ago. Here are some pics. I still need a bit more red in my roos but think the 3 mo. old chicks growing out are going to have much more. The judge at the last show told me they looked good...just needed more red in the wing. These 2 little guys have the red wings!!

Diluted Crele..not sure if male or female yet...I think should be roo since it is just a diluted marking of the regular crele roo. With each generation they are becoming more what I am working for.

This is one of the 3 mo. old roos..he is developing more red which I needed.

Here is the red...always female

These are always females...I think with a bit more work maybe I will get a female close to what the crele roo looks like

I don't know what to call this one....it is a project within itself. I crossed my original crele roo with my GL hen. Quite beautiful and always females. A friend said she considered them lemon barred...I don't know myself other than I really like them.

So...that is how mine have ran. All the black and white "cuckoo" marked chicks grow up to be roos. All others are females. Now...this is what I am wondering. In the wild bird world males are always showy and flashy with bright colors....is this true with some chickens. From what I have gotten out of mine...it seems that way. The copper in the males does not show up til they are a bit over 3 months and gradually it gets brighter and brighter.
Well...that is my gang! What do you think JustStruttin?

How funny we got something completely different when breeding the Crele to Gold Laced!

Anyone have Tolbunts?
