I have to talk POLISH!

Lol, I actually haven't seen our roos fight each other although we do have alot of hens to split between each of them. Usually they just chase each other without and confrontation.

Two? You're basing a breed description on two birds?

Some of my Polish are shy and others are all over me

The shy ones have come around with handling. This is a wonderful and fun breed

Illia, when am I going to see some of those project buff Ameraucanas? I just hatched four buff x wheaten chicks and I plan on posting pictures of them on the Ameraucana thread

I'm still trying to catch up after my short absence, so I'll post some photos in the Ameraucana thread soon. Sadly though the photos I post will be all. I'm not doing the Buffs anymore (

) but I do have some Wheaten x Buffs right now, and may actually use them for a different project. We had to cut back a lot here, and the Buffs was a choice I had to make; them or my other Am project.

I have about 20 current Polish, some from show lines, some from rare color/non-show/non-hatchery, and some from several different hatcheries. Yes there are a couple skittish and dumb or even weak ones I've run across, didn't keep em, but most of my gals are very friendly, very intelligent, and very independent, strong characters. They're super foragers, super fliers, and love chasing cats.

As for males, Polish vary greatly, yes. Hatchery ones are in most cases either aggressive or flighty. Non-hatchery ones are often either very friendly, normal guys or not the toughest.

Ditto on the climbing. I've got one who gets sooo jealous if someone else is hogging my lap or shoulders, and gets pretty pushy too.

I find with the young males, the thing to try is to set them up in a coop so they feel it is their territory. Then you introduce the hens. Seems to work better for me.
I love my Polish, they make me laugh every day, they are such personalities!:) Deb

I have 4 Polish and I have to say my Polish rooster is the first one to crow in the early a.m. hours..... ugh. I've only had them for 3 weeks. I swear he starts at 4 a.m. I'll listen better tonight when he wakes me up. He gets the other started. Normaly they would wait till 5 or 6 give or take. Good thing I have great neighbors....... lol.

The 3 that came together share a separate pen from all the others. They don't free range yet. They are very timid and don't come out of hiding for very long. They are starting to come out a little more. One of the females seems to be the bravest. But the male is the noisiest..... haha. Not great lungs like my others but you can hear him just the same. Good looking boy too. I'm trying to draw them out and teach them not to be afraid of everything.

Now my Polish rooster I got about a week or two before the 3 that I just mentioned is a total sweetheart. He was hand raised and hand fed. Super nice rooster but he is only 5 months old. The ladies don't like him. He's trying to hard and when he does get a girl a bantam roo or my bit NHR roo tackle him. It can be rather comical at times. That Polish roo keeps on trying. He really has to learn how to sweet talk the ladies since he's not getting anywhere the way he's going.
