I just set more silkie eggs...due Dec. 21...anyone else want to play?

I will be getting 3 'outlaw' relatives--coming with 2 'city' pets along just in time for the hatch--another chance to show that food does not just appear in the grocery store. One of the guests is a small dog, and my older girls do not care for small dogs, and will chase and peck them if they do not behave, as will the Roo. Perhaps I can convince them that it is necessary to have a human guest stay in the coop with the new chicks for a week or so.---------------------------------------(Outlaw relative are ones you get via marrage.) It has nothing do do with arrest warrents that can be with inlaw or outlaw relatives.

phalenbeck-Lol You're definitely not alone, mine will be arriving sometime tomorrow though thankfully just for the weekend and without pets-small kids are bad enough. Did you ever see the door mat that says "Outlaws welcome. Inlaws call first."?

I just had a 100% hatch rate. First time ever. Chicks look good. Three have curled toes but that is correctable.
The black ones are Silkie/Aracuna/Onagadori mixes. The 3 striped ones are American Onagadori's and the Yellow one is form a previous hatch 6 days earlier that had a hard time. It died a few hours after this picture was taken.

I candled mine again today. Had to pull 1 of the standard cochin eggs out. Should be 29 silkie eggs and 2 standard cochin eggs due for monday. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Cute!!!!! I have about 7-8 broody pullets in my black pen. They are the only reason I get to collect any unfrozen eggs right now. They manage to get any eggs that the rest lay and usher them to their corner. These early chicks are from where I start picking out show stock for fall. I take no chances and they stay in the house for a few months.

Hey Kathy-do you cut the bottoms out of each egg cup or just the little dividers?
I've got Seramas due first...gonna have to open up the bator to add in eggs twice while they're on lockdown I think. As long as I'm quick it should be okay right? Just don't leave it open longer than necessary? First time incubating so I'm nervous I'll do something wrong. So far so good though considering all but 3 of my eggs were shipped and traumatized and I've still got the majority of those developing well.
