I just told my daughter to steal a sick rooster!!! Pic Heavy!!!

My gut instinct is agreeing with Spotted Crow- force her to eat. I know from my experience recently that chickens can decline REALLY surprisingly fast if they are not eating. My hen's body weight dropped alarmingly over the course of a couple days not digesting her food due to crop impaction.

have you tried holding her in your lap and pushing a piece of food against the side of her beak? Maybe a tiny piece of soft bread that's been soaked in something nutritious like soft-cooked egg yolk or chicken feed mixed with warm water until it starts dissolving? This technique worked for us when feeding a pullet with a broken beak, but then again she had a will to eat and it sounds like your girl may be beyond that. Also try an eye-dropper (or baby-meds "syringe") of yogurt or soft food dribbled along her beak. It is tedious work but maybe if you can get SOME food into her, and get her strength back up a bit, she'll start to be able to eat on her own.

Also- dribble the water along the side of her beak with an eye dropper. Ours would open thier beaks for a sip if we did this. Dehydration would be a big problem.

Best wishes and good luck! You are wonderful to be doing all you are!!!

Well I was up all night with her. Seems she just had the one big green mushy poop after her de wroming and then it went back to yellow and clear. I really didn't think she would make it through the night. I finally fell asleep at 4:30 and when I woke up at 7 I didn't expect to see her alive. I crept down stairs, took care of the dogs and did the dishes, I just didn't want to look in the kennel. I mustered the courage and there she was, drinking 8 gulps in arow!!! I pulled her out gave her a bath cuz she was already covered in slime, dried her off, gave her some warm oatmeal and she dug in for about 6 bites and then quit. But at least she ate!!!! I was just crying at the site of her little beak all covered in oatmeal. She's asleep under the brooder light right now. What a miracle from God!!!

Thank you all for your prayers!! I know it is what is keeping her going. I will keep you posted.

She's gobbling up the soft cooked egg like it was ice cream!! And still drinking on her own. I am sitting here with my jaw on the floor!

Whew! I've been following this as closely as I did SpeckledHen's double-yolked egg. And I was starting to think we were headed for another bittersweet ending. Sure hope Tira pulls through! Sounds like she is making a good start on her recovery!!

When I saw the photo of her looking perky in the crate early on, this scripture came into my head (from Matthew):

"For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me."

Even if a person isn't religious, that phrase still packs a big punch. I hope Tiramisu makes a complete recovery!

I would keep up the yogurt or get probioitc supplements from the health food store, with all she had been through the good bacteria in her gut has to be low. This will mean that her immune system is impaired and that she will not be getting all the nutrients out of her food. In
fact I would give her some liquid probitoics at this point, if I was trying to save her.
