I know it's early but....Who's ready for 2024 Baby Chicks!

I just placed our newest order for babies from Myers today! I know, I know, but I wanted a few special breeds and such so I had to pull the pin and get my order in. Anyone else already placing orders for 2024, if so what's on your shopping list?

Ordered Speckled Sussex, Blue Americana, and Lisa's Cookies and Cream.
Now the wait begins, 182 days until ship date......

I’m getting 12 Appenzeller Spitzhaubens in 2024! 9 chamois and 3 gold spangled. They have been on my list of chicken breeds I have been wanting for a while.

Today was supposed to be a joyous day as our order was scheduled to be delivered. The delivery came on time in less than 24 hrs, but my entire order had deceased.

I know this thing could always happen, but the devastation of emotions it caused when opening up the box was unbearable. We have decided to not place a re-order but to find some chicks locally, as our hearts cannot take another blow again.

We are hoping our local Tractor Supply will have 4 chicks that we can claim and take home and raise.

I ordered Swedish flower hen, Austrolop, buckeye, and silkie pullets. Meyer just started their 2024 orders a few days ago, and the earliest shipping day I could get is 5/13! Most Silkies were sold out by Monday. Crazy!

I'm too nervous to ship through the mail (we're only getting 3), but I'm intending to pick up a Speckled Sussex, Welsummer, and Cream Legbar from the local farm store.

Those sound awesome! I also didn't want to wait like last year, most breeds were sold out and had very little to choose from. I almost added a few Swedish Hens as well, chicken math could take hold before my shipment and who knows what might end up in the basket!

I don't mail order but hoping to get 3 more chicks next year. Currently would like a Delaware, a Barnevelder, and... undecided. Maybe I'll let hubby choose. Then again his last choice was a Buttercup that's a complete dud and flighty to boot, so maybe that's a bad idea.
