I know the breed...an EE from Sonew ~ Gender?

By now I think they would have started crowing. I think hen. The saddle feathers are short and round. She could just have feathers that don't lay right in the back.

At three months that is a pullet.

Just as a curiosity, has anyone had/seen a pure black ee rooster? I can't think of seeing one right off, I'd think they'd have some leakage, either red on the wings or silver like the birchen. Thx.

My uncle has an all black rooster but it's a mix of EE and Americauna. And your right, it could possibly be an Americauna. EEs and Americaunas have similar characteristics.

You all made me very happy. I am definitely keeping her until..and I have enough confidence in my BYC Friends to be able to tell the difference at this age... she lays an egg...but oh, then it would keeping her a loong time. Thanks everyone!

I agree, she looks like a pullet to me. Where did you get her?

I hatched her from some eggs that sonew sent me. She was the only one that hatched...so, sure was hoping for a girl.. sonew sent some EE's and some pure Ameraucanas. She really is getting prettier every day. :)

I think that she is an Ameraucana, It's not very often that you see an EE, especially a pullet, that pure black color. She also has slate legs, EEs more commonly have green legs.

Ask sonew what she thinks, she will have a better idea.

You have a pullet. My Easter Eggers frequently have loose feathers on their hind end as well. It doesn't mean they are roosters lol! Your girls feathers are nice and rounded, not pointy like a roos. Her comb is also quite small, nothing there to indicate male.

Ok kids..you were great at helping me decide on keeping "her". Soo glad I came on and asked. Look at what I would have missed out on..yep, you were right, it's a girl!
