Oh I HATE Raccoons!! I'm sorry for your loss.

I've lost over 30 chickens to them before we built Coop Knox. Haven't lost a single chicken for almost 2 years now. Also having Koda my Great Pyr. helps too.

Frustrating how one little mistake is all it takes. But then, they have way more time on their paws to test all the possible weaknesses than any of us do.

For my own reference, and for others, can you tell us what sort of latch it was? It'd be nice to know what to avoid.

I personally have my pop-door bolted shut at night (with the nuts on the inside) and the people doors have two slide locks and one padlock each.

So sorry that this happened. You can try padlocks, I know it seems like overkill but it does work. I have one on each door, all keyed the same with the key hanging on the padlock by a chain.

I found out how it got in! It climbed over the yard, which is now covered in net, and broke the latch off of the wood!

It actually broke the pice of wood that the latch was on apart from the other wood!
