I love dh and trapping season! PICS

herechickchick, i think fox are awesome critters.. Trapping some just keeps the population in check, I try not to over harvest..
I trap a spot for a week and pull all traps from that area. Most of my trapping is along the mtn and either landlocked to the public or its private land..Some game lands as well at certain times...However where ever i trap there is always a farm near by somewhere, which I'm sure helps them out whether they know it or not..
I just got this big coon yesterday. i swear he was pushing 30.lbs easily.. That was the biggest male coon i ever caught and saw..caught him about 1/4 mile from our farm..

Thanks
Charlie

I did not know we had gray foxes so close here I am used to the red ones my dog does an ok job with them though and I haven't lost any girls I am very good about locking them up though.

How neat! I remember when I was young my dad used to trap. It was fun to go with him to check the traps. However what I remember most was taking the stuff to the fur shop, and how weird the critters looked after the skinned them and put the furs on these metal frame things, and they were all just hanging all over the place. It was so weird.

Sara yup, they are kind of weird looking as well as smelling to, those shops with all the good lures they have there..Plus all the musky smells of the critters themselves..

Here's another gray from this morning...as you can see no damage or blood of any kind..so if you wanted to release you very well could..this one was caught about 200 yards from our farm as well as the other one in the earlier pick..a lot of people don't know fox are around, till something bad happens, which sooner or later it will, especially if you have an unchecked population of them....if you got reds, you got grays to, maybe not as many..The trap type used is called an "off set" they do not put so much pressure on the foot or leg. Its a Very forgiving type of leg trap..

We have plenty of them here. I know that there are some at my in laws farm right up the road. Last winter a fox ate all but 1 of my ducks, one by one every night.

Sara im not sure how far you are from me, but if you ever need a trapper let me know..Im sure i can cut the population in half for you or your in laws if needed..sorry for your loss, i here alot of stories on ducks, most who have them have small and large ponds and so most ducks are not penned for that reason, the foxes really play heck on them...

I'm about 25 minutes or so from you. Depending how it goes this winter I might take you up on it if you would want to. My ducks aren't penned. I just buy cheap ones at the sales because I like to see them on my pond. I know that's probably not popular, but they don't like to be penned. My DH built me a little thing for them and I couldn't ever get them back in it so I tore it down.

Oh wow Charlie! Look at the fur on those! Those pelts will be gorgeous. For sure.

I've seen 6-7 gray foxes here since we moved in in July. You're more than welcome to come trap them if you want
